Wasatch National Forest's West Fork Smiths Fork dispersed area sits in a large stretch of high-country terrain west of China Meadows Campground, where meadows open up to views of the surrounding ridgelines and wildlife moves through regularly. The access road is rocky enough to pop a tire. Cell service is limited to nonexistent, so offline maps are worth downloading before the drive in. Campers hiking along the river can reach Bald Mountain and Bald Lake to the south. No fee, no facilities, and a pack-in/pack-out rule applies throughout.

Great dispersed camping!

This was a great area, beautiful trees and respectful roaming cows. The road is rocky, so rocky that we actually popped a tire on the way in so we camped at one of the first sites with a fire ring. It was right next to the bridge and a brook. The sound of the brook was wonderful and the road wasn’t too busy. Take in/take out of course. Limited to no phone service so plan accordingly.

High Uintas - North Slope Paradise!

West Fork Smiths Fork is a huge area to the west of China Meadows. Campers from all over the state venture to China Meadows to hike to Red Castle, and hunters from all over the country travel here to hunt deer and elk! 

Hiking along the river will lead you south to Bald Mountain and Bald Lake. Dispersed camping is available throughout the entire area. Vast meadows are filled with various wildlife and gorgeous views! 

The simplest access for most campers coming from Utah will be coming down through Wyoming, past Stateline Reservoir. The area can also be accessed from the west via Mirror Lake Highway, but will take significantly longer due to the overall length of dirt road you'll be required to travel on from that direction.
