Maple Canyon

This was mom’s (me) first camping trip, ever! My son and I found this gem in late March (opening day 3/21) for FF (that’s first come first served). We didn’t realize it was still covered in snow. I drive a Subaru outback AWD and still needed to stop and put on the chains. But totally worth it! We parked in front of the campsite (which had a picnic table, fire pit, and grill), dug out a footprint for our tent in the snow, built a fire and had the place to ourselves. Though it got pretty cold my son had thought ahead and brought zero degree sleeping bags. Slept like a baby! The views and the coolness of the canyon were just incredible. We’ve tried to go back over a weekend in the later spring and summer, but it’s a rock climbers paradise and now you need reservations on the weekend. Will definitely go back in the fall and will plan ahead and reserve a spot. My son is an outdoor climber (I belay) and he’s looking forward to the climbs!

Dirt road in, off the hwy, was a bit rutted, but we made it okay in van. Took our chances on a FCFS spot, #8 which looked fairly level but was not. There were 2 bathrooms we saw and the site was mostly equidistant from both, and a bit of distance away. Beautiful canyon with walls rising up both sides but were just passing thru so didn't get to see much and didn't stay but basically overnight. Seems like some interesting pull out boon-docking sites on way in but bathroom in day use parking was locked in the am when we left.

Forested campsites in a narrow canyon. Busy on weekends. Got the last first served sit at 3pm Friday. Sites next to the main road. Traffic peering into the campsite. Young fit crowd. Weak cell reception.

Nice campground with great rock climbing. Well maintained sites and toilet facilities. Very peaceful ( with the exception of a little traffic going up and down the road during day).  Reservations required though, so plan ahead

You are gonna want a car that can deal with some bumpy roads but a great place with climbing.

Been hanging out in this canyon since I was 8 all my Cub Scout an Boy Scout campin was done here, I’m 63 now and still go climb the rocks it’s a free stylers paradise no ropes need, I remember it was free well there was a donation box and it was always full, don’t know why it’s always got to be about the money, nature made this place no one else but still you exploited it

I had no idea what to expect going to this campground, and it blew my freaking mind out was so beautiful. Definitely a climber's place, but also just gorgeous with lots of trails. So peaceful. I got the best sleep of my life at this place.

Love this place! During summer it’s hard to get a spot but there is some dispersed camping down the road. Fall is beautiful with all the colors! We were here in late October after a little snow so the place was empty. Even with no host (assume gone for winter) the area was very clean, pit toilets were open and stocked with TP. The camp sites are great for van/tent or maybe small RV but if it’s busy there are no turn around spots as day parking areas could be full. The sites have picnic tables and fire pits. No water and no cell service. Closest cell reception is top of canyon (via hike) or where concrete road ends at mouth of canyon. The rock climbing here is amazing! Tons of sport routes of all levels. Crazy conglomerate rock. Scenic but steep 4 mile loop hike to viewpoint. Bear and cougar country so keep your food and trash properly stored :)

Great camping, great climbing.

This is a gorgeous canyon! Most people come here for climbing. We stayed in site A and had an abundance of shade. There is a firepit available and pit toilets at the main campground parking area. Cash/envelopes to pay for camping. I dont think you can reserve campsites here. Pack in your own water there is none available. Quiet after hours but there was some rzr traffic for a while. Campsites are small pull offs on the side of the main road. Our large campervan fit fine and small RVs too. Large RVs may have trouble.

You are WALKING distance from sport climbs of all grades.

Verizon service just outside the campground, where the pavement ends we parked at a turnout. We work out of our van and it was amazing to be 15 minutes from multiple crags for post work climbing.

Quite primitive camping, but there are vault toilets and fire rings.

If you are interested in geology, this place is worth at least a hike. Some canyons have pictographs too!

We also have dogs, so the small creek (August was a dry time to be here) was nice for the to cool down in.

Worth the visit for $10 a night.

I go to this campground every fall because it is such a wonderful place. There are a lot of campsites and all are right next to climbing areas. The maple leaves in the fall are fantastic. It only takes about 90 minutes to get here from SLC and there is a yummy soda shop right outside of the canyon. Even if the spots are full, there is a lot of camping along side the road on your way in.
