Fort Meade Recreation Area

Hikers and bikers will find multiple trail access points at Fort Meade Recreation Area, which sits between a creek and Interstate 90 just outside Sturgis. This BLM-managed campground provides 5 RV sites and 12 tent sites, with some tent spots requiring a short walk from the parking area. Sites are closely spaced, and campers report frequent prairie rattlesnake sightings in the area.

The campground features vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Water comes from a fountain rather than spigots, so campers filling large containers need to bring a water bandit with hose. Recent pricing increased to $24 per night year-round. The Ft. Meade Horse Camp sits nearby for equestrian campers seeking specialized facilities.

Overpriced and full of rattlesnakes.

Campground is subpar. Very close spots, has a water fountain but no spigot. There is trash and vault toilets. Full of prairie rattlesnakes. Lots of trails for walking. Sits between a creek, a dusty road and the interstate.

Raised the prices

Lots of hiking, biking, picnicking area. Near Alkali Horse campgrounds. The price used to be $6.00 during the open season and free after October 1st. BLM just raised the price to $24, per day all year around and $30 per day at the Alkali Horse camp. The site dies not have a camp host all year around. There are picnic tables, 5 sites for RVs, fire rings, 12 tent camping sites. Some of the tent sites require a short hike. Pit toilet, bike rake station and a water fountain. Recommend using a water bandit with hose if filling up large containers. Just a few minutes outside Sturgis
