Getting to Soggy Boot Campground requires driving a rough gravel road up into the mountains outside Rabun Gap, Georgia, and finding the actual sites takes some navigation. There are no signs marking the way. Multiple reviewers note that arriving after dark makes the search genuinely difficult, and at least one group ended up camping roadside until morning. The best navigation tip from campers: use the nearby Ramah Darom retreat center as a GPS target, then, as tamara puts it, "once you get to the entrance keep continuing up the mountain."
What campers find once they're oriented is a collection of roughly ten dispersed sites scattered along the road and surrounding forest, managed by the US Forest Service at no cost. Some spots sit near a creek, and at least one large clearing can accommodate several vehicles with room to spread out. Fire rings exist at certain sites but not all. Trash left by previous visitors has been noted, so packing out thoroughly matters here. RVs are not recommended given the road conditions.
The campground sits within Chattahoochee National Forest, and nearby options like Persimmon Falls Campground and Tallulah River Campground provide alternatives with more defined infrastructure. Drinking water is available, and pets are welcome. Soggy Boot works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with unmarked dispersed sites and a bumpy approach road.
