Difficult to find after dusk but awesome spot for 4WD cars

We came looking for this campsite past dark and after a half hour of driving on a gravel road we gave up searching and just parked on the side of the road for the night.

In the morning we went hunting for the campground and ended up finding at least 10 campsites scattered throughout the mountain and road. The coordinates posted weren’t very helpful so the best way to find this location is to put into the GPS the name of the nearby retreat center called “Ramah Darom”. Once you get to the entrance keep continuing up the mountain. The road will stop being paved and you’ll have a gravel road to continue on that leads you to numerous sites.

The sites arnt difficult to find in the daytime, just know there’s no signs or pointers to tell you which way to go.

I’ll post some pictures to help you find where some of the sites are.

The sites are primitive, with just fire rings but its definitely a cute spot to spend the night.

I don’t recommend RV’s.

Absolutely Stunning !

Completely free primitive camping. Me and my boyfriend had a difficult time finding the place at first. The coordinates took us to a Bible school. To get to the right place, start on Demory Road take a right onto Jim Lee Road then take the second left to get back into the public land area, follow the dirt road all the way down to the water front where you’ll find numerous campsites all spread out perfectly. The sites are all close to the water with beautiful sunsets on the west side and gorgeous sunrises on the east sites. This spot is my ultimate favorite spot I’ve visited so far. It’s peaceful, private, close to water, has fire circles and free! Only downside is that there was some trash left behind by others and the coordinates are a little difficult to find but I promise the spot is worth it.

Coordinates are wrong, don’t go here

We drove here to find that the coordinates given by the app took us to a neighborhood and once you get there the pin that shows where the campsite is supposed to be has a sign saying “disaster area”. Don’t waste your time driving here unless the coordinates get updated.

Don’t show up after dusk

From Hwy 107 you can access Burells Ford road which is fully gravel and rocky, certain cars may have difficulty. Just follow the gravel road and you’ll find a parking lot on the left that has a backcountry campsite but you have to hike to the site, it’s not a drive in site. If you keep continuing on the gravel road we passed two small campsites very spread out. It’s primitive camping with just a site off the road and a fire ring. The first site is easy to find on the left side, almost impossible to miss. The second site is on the right a little more difficult to find but it’s a great spot that’s very secluded. We took our jeep on some unmarked thin side roads and found that they have weird dead ends and you drive through streams. The scariest dead end had rocks placed in circles… very creepy at night. I highly recommend staying on the gravel road and not venturing on the side paths with your car. I will include creepy pictures.

FREE and stunningly perfect

Absolutely love this place. Super easy to find, you just go down a red clay road. There’s plenty of sites up close to the pond, fire pits everywhere, picnic tables, clean garbages. The trooper came by in the morning and cleaned the bathrooms and changed the garbages. Overall this place is so clean and well taken care of. We didn’t have any issues with alligators but we did wake up to seeing and hearing them in the water, but nothing to be afraid of they were very small and kept their distance. My only complain is how loud the frogs were in the night and the plentiful mosquitos but otherwise this is one of my absolute favorite free campsites I’ve ever been to.

For being free it was amazing

First you have to make an account on their website and make a reservation for the night. You’ll get an email that says what the gate code is and which lock to put the code into. The place is beautiful, picnic tables, fire pits, non-potable water and bathrooms. Although, the bathrooms are not pretty and in the email it said fires are not permitted right now in May. Also there are a lot of sites with people that look like they’ve made the campsite into their property, the only issue is the loud radio and generators left on overnight.
