Description
The steep rim above Upper Klamath Lake in Winema National Forest opens to a high-clearance pullout that delivers a sweeping panorama of one of Oregon's largest lakes — visible nearly end to end — along with distant glimpses of Mt. Shasta to the south. The access road climbs from Highway 97 on a single-lane grade, paved briefly at the base then transitioning to washboarded gravel; smaller rigs and vans handle it well, but tight switchbacks and the narrow lower section make it a poor fit for large trailers or vehicles that struggle with steep, exposed roads. Logging trucks use the corridor regularly, bringing intermittent dust and occasional late-night traffic, and the terrain is consistently uneven, so leveling blocks are worth packing.
