Nice riverside place - perfect for nude relaxation

I'm just now getting around to reviewing some places that I've enjoyed and plan to return to.  I was here in late August 2022 during a swing through the Northwest, and I spent three days and nights nude here.  Very pleasant and relaxing at the river, not too crowded and there were only a few other campers there, and no one cared that I was naked.  Some people who were camped a distance away were nude as well (nudity is not illegal in Oregon).  I did some short hikes and swam in the river each day.  The weather was perfect and I'm making plans to return there when I go through the NW again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the best Snake River camping spots in Oregon?

Swedes Landing is one of the prime camping spots along the Snake River in Oregon. This lesser-known gem offers a peaceful riverside experience away from large crowds. Other notable Snake River camping options include Farewell Bend State Park, which features more developed facilities, and various BLM sites scattered along the river's edge. The Oregon side of Hells Canyon also provides spectacular riverside camping opportunities with dramatic views. For those seeking solitude, the remote access points near Huntington and Richland offer quieter alternatives.

What amenities are available at Snake River campgrounds in Oregon?

Swedes Landing offers basic amenities typical of more rustic Snake River campgrounds. The site provides river access for swimming and recreation. Facilities are minimal, so campers should come prepared with their own drinking water and sanitation supplies. Most Snake River camping areas provide fire rings, though fire restrictions may apply during dry seasons. Unlike more developed state parks along the river, primitive sites like Swedes Landing don't typically offer electricity, showers, or dump stations. Cell service can be spotty along the river corridor, so plan communications accordingly.

Do I need permits for camping along the Snake River in Oregon?

Most Snake River camping areas in Oregon, including Swedes Landing, require permits or registration. While specific permit requirements vary by location and managing agency, many sites are administered by the BLM or Oregon State Parks. At Swedes Landing, be prepared to pay applicable camping fees. Always check with the managing authority before your trip as regulations can change. For extended stays or large groups, additional permits might be necessary. During peak summer months, securing permits in advance is recommended to ensure availability.

What activities can you do while camping on the Snake River in Oregon?

The Snake River offers abundant recreational opportunities for campers. At Swedes Landing, swimming in the river is a popular and refreshing activity, especially during hot summer days. The area is ideal for relaxing by the water and enjoying the natural surroundings. Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck catching smallmouth bass, sturgeon, and trout depending on the season. Wildlife watching is rewarding with opportunities to spot various bird species and occasional deer or elk. Photography, stargazing, and hiking nearby trails round out the available activities. Some sections of the river are suitable for kayaking and canoeing, though visitors should check water conditions before launching.
