Lost Forest/Dunes/Fossil ACEC

Bureau of Land Management operates this dispersed camping area within the Lost Forest/Dunes/Fossil Area of Critical Environmental Concern, where sand dunes meet scattered forest terrain. The campground lacks established sites or amenities, allowing visitors to select their own spots across the sandy, uneven ground. Access requires navigating rough roads that can challenge standard vehicles.

Wildlife activity increases after dark, with cougars and coyotes moving through the area regularly. The terrain consists entirely of sand and dirt with irregular driving surfaces. BLM Juniper Campground sits less than a mile west for those preferring more structured camping. Bring extra water and supplies, as services remain distant.

Primitive camping for sure!

Incredibly spacious and beautiful views! Very few established campfire rings or sites but plenty of space to pick your own parking! Terrain is solely sand and dirt with uneven driving but very worth it for the dunes and views. Lots of wildlife that can wander through after dark including cougars and coyotes.
