Deschutes National Forest manages this dispersed campsite on the rim of Hole in the Ground, a volcanic maar in Oregon's high desert near campgrounds near Fort Rock. The feature itself is not visible from a distance, so navigating by landmarks like nearby power poles and railroad tracks helps with orientation. No services are available on site. Campfire restrictions apply during dry conditions even after June 1, and overnight temperatures can drop to around 40°F, so cold-weather gear matters regardless of warm daytime highs. Dogs are welcome. This spot works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with dispersed camping and high desert terrain.
