Aneroid Lake Backcountry Dispersed Campsite

Camp Halton is a private property located on the south side of Aneroid Lake in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of Oregon. It contrasts with the public dispersed camping areas for backpackers, which are situated on the north side of the lake. The camp represents a private inholding within the wilderness area, so visitors should respect property boundaries when camping at Aneroid Lake and ensure they're setting up on the public north shore only.

There are no public cabins available for rent at Aneroid Lake. The south side of the lake is private property (Camp Halton) which may have structures, but these aren't available for public use. Backpackers must bring their own shelter and camp in the dispersed camping areas on the north side of the lake. The area offers wilderness camping experiences, requiring visitors to be self-sufficient with appropriate backcountry gear.

Aneroid Lake is accessed via a hiking trail in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of northeastern Oregon. The most common route begins at the Wallowa Lake Trailhead near Joseph, Oregon. From there, backpackers follow the East Fork Wallowa River Trail, climbing steadily for approximately 6-7 miles to reach the lake. The trail features significant elevation gain, making it a moderately challenging hike that requires proper preparation. No road access is available to the lake, as it sits within designated wilderness area that prohibits motorized travel.
