Quiet, Dark State Park

Amazing camping away from road, aircraft, and city noises. Great staff. Clean and dark at night for amazing stargazing.

Wonderful Beach, Partially Closed For Construction

When I visited the park I was very excited having seen some of the trails and also the lodge area.    Unfortunately much of that was closed as a result of improvement projects, sadly limiting some of the things which were accessible to me upon my visit.   I instead settled into a campsite and…

Cool Little Park

I spend a couple days here, camping in a primitive / hike-in site, and hiking during the day. It’s a very cool park and a must-visit for anyone in the DFW area since it’s an easy weekend trip. The primitive sites could be farther apart - they were close enough that I frequently unintentionally…

Can't wait to come back!

Camped a single night and unfortunately caught a gnarly winter thunderstorm over night. We were looking forward to the awesome start nights we've read so much about, but will have to wait till next time. The camp site was nice tho. Fire ring, grills, covered table, and enough space between sites.…

Home sweet home....

The Rolling Plains has been home to my family for a long long time and it’s always wonderful to be back. Copper Breaks is a beautiful, wild place perfectly managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. A light touch all around with simple, compact campgrounds to keep a small footprint on the terrain. This…

Awesome!

Had a 2 night stay on our cross country trip and it was perfect.  The campsites were well spaced, level, clean, and easy hook ups (no septic though). We took advantage of the trails and did a 7 mile hike on the moderate level.  Low level military jets occasional during the day was the only faint…

Quiet, loads of stars

Stayed at campsite 37 at the equestrian camping area. All other sites in this campground were empty so it was very quiet. My campsite offered great views of the canyon and an amazing array of stars at night. Flush toilets, showers close by and water pumps at the site. Great site and worth the $15.

Great weekend getaway

Nice clean park with the friendliest staff. Boating, kayaking, swimming, camping, hiking. We always enjoy our visits to this park. Facilities and grounds are well kept.

Beautiful

Would recommend anyone to go check it out. Take some cash they have peddle boats and kayaks you can rent and a little fun park with carnival type ride and water slides.

  • Friendly wildlife at the little grocery store at the park

Nice little state park

Great little state park right on the shores of Tom Steed Reservoir. Sites are well spaced. Campground is well maintained. Good fishing. Lots of walking area around the lake. Friendly staff. Most all sites have a view of the water. You’ll need to make reservations to ensure you get a site. This is…

Peaceful and serene

If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place. It is a National Dark Sky site and perfect for star gazing. The sites are almost 70 feet apart. Well maintained. Daily activities run by staff. Great hiking and a nice lake. Staff super friendly. If you love nature this is a great spot. It’s…

Just a stop off at best

This site is located on Altus Air Force Base. It only has 12 sites. You must be a Department of Defense ID card holder to stay on base. The camp area has little to offer. It is only $17 a night and a good stop off if you are in the area. You do have the security of being on a military base.

Great area, lots of things to do

We camped here in May 2019 in the tent camping area right on the river, just below the dam.   There is no electricity for the tent sites.  There is water, but not at every tent site.  Each tent site had a picnic table, fire ring and grill.  This campsite caters to RV's and it looks like several of…
