West River Road Dispersed — Little Missouri National Grassland

Description

Rolling badlands hills on the western edge of Little Missouri National Grassland put this dispersed corridor just a few miles from the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, with wide-open views across the breaks and easy access to the Petrified Forest Trail. A one-lane gravel road off West River Road climbs into the hills, offering a string of pullouts spaced well enough apart for privacy — the spot fills up by late afternoon in summer, particularly on weekends. The dirt surface becomes slick and steep after rain, so high-clearance or 4WD is strongly advised in wet conditions; in dry weather the road has accommodated rigs of all sizes.
