Kring Point State Park sits on a narrow peninsula where Goose Bay meets the St. Lawrence River, and the campground managed by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation makes the most of that geography. Almost every site has direct water access, with some facing Goose Bay and others positioned just across the road from the St. Lawrence. The park's location in Redwood, New York, puts it within reach of camping near Alexandria Bay and the broader Thousand Islands region, where nearby options include Mary Island State Park Campground and Keewaydin State Park Campground.
Water is the central draw. Campers consistently mention fishing from the rocky shoreline, two swim beaches, a boat launch, and docks. The flat rock outcroppings along the water are a notable feature, used for both sitting and jumping into the river. Sites are equipped with fire rings, grills, and picnic tables, and the bathrooms are described as clean. The facilities have been recently updated, with new bathrooms and kitchen cleanup stations noted by recent visitors. Sites tend to be small with limited separation between neighbors, which is worth factoring in when reserving.
Reservations go fast. The campground is open from May through early October, with nightly rates ranging from $24 to $108. Full hookups are available for RVs up to 50 feet. Carol B. notes the site had "brand new bathrooms with showers and two kitchen clean up stations." Pets are welcome, and the park reportedly draws wildlife close to shore. Anglers in particular will find the setup well-suited to their needs, with fishing access from nearly every part of the grounds.
Description
Kring Point State Park is a narrow peninsula whose south shore faces Goose Bay and north shore faces the St. Lawrence River. Standing anywhere in the park, visitors see water and many of the 1700 islands for which the region is named. Half of the park's 100 campsites are on the waterfront, and virtually every cabin and campsite has a river or bay view. The park has docks on the river and the bay and a sandy beach on the St. Lawrence. Fishing, boating, swimming, and picnicking are major activities. During the winter, visitors cross-country ski.
