Within New York's St. Lawrence River valley, Eel Weir State Park encompasses this small campground that provides direct access to the Oswegatchie River. The NYS Office of Parks manages approximately 30 sites spread across grassy terrain with mature trees providing overhead coverage.
Most sites offer views of the flowing water, with two positioned directly on the riverbank. The open layout between sites means limited privacy screening, though edge locations provide more separation. Daniel L. notes the "grass sites with plenty of trees for shade" and spacious dimensions that compensate for the minimal undergrowth. Electric, water, and sewer hookups accommodate RVs up to 50 feet, while the boat launch serves anglers and paddlers accessing the river system.
The campground operates seasonally from late May through early September, drawing visitors primarily for fishing opportunities along the Oswegatchie. Campers report hearing clip-clop sounds from Amish horse-drawn buggies crossing the bridge, and local Amish farms provide firewood options. Bath facilities include showers, though maintenance needs have been mentioned. For additional camping options in the region, campers can explore sites around Ogdensburg about six miles north.
Reservations are accepted, and the campground rarely reaches capacity during the season.
Description
The park is located on the Oswegatchie River, two miles from Black Lake. The park fronts the river, which is navigable upstream to the lake. Both waterways are known for excellent bass fishing and are ideal for canoes or rowboats. As it is small and secluded, the park is a perfect place to get away from it all.
