Island camping, boat required!

The first time we went here we didn’t realize you need a boat to get to the campsite, luckily some other visitors gave us a ride. Really memorable due to it being on an island within the 1000 Islands, but the campsite itself is simple, pretty clean, rustic (at least it was last time we were there in about 2013). Be sure to take in the sunrise/set while there.

Boat to this campground!

You need a boat to get here, making it one of our favorite places to camp in NY. There are quite a few sites here, all pretty private, but still make reservations. Nice to have separate docks for the campers, as there are some day use facilities too. Basic sites, clean and very well kept. Don’t think about it, just book this site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What camping facilities are available at Cedar Island State Park?

Cedar Island State Park Campground offers rustic camping with basic yet well-maintained facilities. The campground features multiple campsites that provide good privacy from neighboring sites. Each site is clean and well-kept, offering a primitive camping experience in a natural setting. The island has separate docks designated specifically for campers, distinct from the day-use facilities. While the amenities are simple, the campground's isolation and natural beauty make it a unique destination. Visitors should be prepared for rustic conditions and bring necessary supplies as services are limited on the island.

What activities can visitors enjoy at Cedar Island State Park?

Cedar Island State Park offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities centered around its unique island location. Boating is a primary activity, as it's required to access the island. Once there, visitors can enjoy swimming, fishing in the surrounding waters, and hiking around the island. The park also has day-use facilities separate from the camping areas. The serene natural setting makes it perfect for wildlife watching, photography, and simply enjoying peaceful views of the 1000 Islands region. The island's isolation creates an exceptional opportunity to disconnect and experience nature without crowds.

How do I make reservations for Cedar Island State Park camping?

Reservations are strongly recommended for Cedar Island State Park Campground due to its popularity and limited number of sites. You can make reservations through the New York State Parks reservation system online or by phone. Book well in advance, especially for summer weekends and holidays, as the unique island setting makes this a sought-after destination. Remember that boat transportation to the island is required and not provided by the park - you'll need to arrange your own boat or water taxi service to reach your campsite. Upon arrival, separate docks are available specifically for registered campers.

Where is Cedar Island State Park located in New York?

Cedar Island State Park is located in the scenic 1000 Islands region of New York. It sits on an actual island within the St. Lawrence River, making it accessible only by boat.
