You wont be “camping” if you stay at Davis State Park because there is no campground, in fact not even any tenting sites. However, you do have the opportunity for “glamping” in newly built camper cabins that are actually very cozy and upscale compared to the more rustic camper cabins at many NY state parks The cabins are fairly dispersed throughout the park, so each has a nice fairly private setting, the nicest being number 6, the “MaryAnn” cabin. So, for cabin “camping” this is a plus. The park is small, however, and while it does have a hiking trail, there not a lot else for adventurous adults to do right within the park. It would be ideal, however, for a getaway weekend for families with young kids, as the cabins are family friendly, there is a nice fishing pond perfect for kids, a new playground, and the trails aren't overly challenging. The picnic pavilion and day use area are perfect fir group events too, so this park is also good for things like family reunions. For adults who want a quiet getaway to Cooperstown but dont want to stay at pricier lodging in town, this would also be a less expensive and woodsy option just outside Cooperstown, but with easy access to museums, opera house, cafes and bistros, etc. Glamping indeed!
