Situated in the boot heel of New Mexico near the Arizona border, Rusty's RV Ranch sits in the open desert outside Rodeo at an elevation that draws RVers looking to avoid harsh winters elsewhere. The campground runs on gravel roads and gravel sites, all level, with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer. Sites accommodate rigs up to 50 feet. Pull-throughs make up most of the layout, with some back-in options available.
The grounds are consistently clean across reviews. The owner has added on-property hiking trails, a koi pond, a swan and duck pond, bird enclosures, goats, and a dog park, giving campers reasons to stay close to camp between day trips. Trees are present but short, so shade is limited. Concrete pads with power outlets are available for astronomy setups, and the low light pollution in this part of New Mexico suits that use well. Francois T. describes it as "very quiet" and visited three times in eight months for stargazing. The nearby Dark Sky Retreat draws similar visitors to the area.
Cell service is limited regardless of carrier. AT&T users report one bar of 5G with modest speeds, Verizon fares similarly, and T-Mobile reviewers noted no signal at all. Park WiFi exists but runs slow. Starlink works well given clear northern sky exposure. Supplies are scarce locally, so stocking up before arrival is worth planning around. Douglas, Arizona, roughly 55 miles south, is the nearest town with full shopping. Campers exploring camping near Rodeo will find options are sparse, which makes Rusty's the practical anchor for this corner of the state.
