Sitting at elevation in Lincoln National Forest just outside Cloudcroft, Silver Campground trades the desert heat of the lowlands for tall conifers and cooler temperatures. The contrast is notable: White Sands is roughly 40 minutes south, yet the forest here runs thick with shade. Sites include fire rings, picnic tables, and enough space to park rigs up to 45 feet, though one reviewer noted the steep grades and tight turns on approach would give larger vehicles a workout.
Sites here can feel close together when the campground fills. Reviewers mention that noise from neighboring sites, including late-night gatherings, has been a recurring issue, and at least one camper specifically recommended Saddle Campground as a quieter alternative with more spacing between sites. Bathrooms are distributed across loops and have generally earned clean marks, though the dump station and potable water fill area are not located at individual sites. Cell coverage is inconsistent depending on carrier.
"Dump station and potable water fill area, but not at site," notes Ben J., who also flagged snow on the ground during a mid-April visit. The season runs April through early October. At $23 per night, the price has drawn comment from multiple reviewers who found it steep relative to the site type. Reservations are available. For campers traveling with dogs, Silver allows pets, as do many dog-friendly campgrounds near Lincoln National Forest. This campground tends to work best for campers who prioritize shade, forest access, and established amenities over isolation.
