Apache Campground — Lincoln National Forest

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Lincoln National Forest maintains Apache Campground as one of three loops clustered along a single road just outside Cloudcroft, New Mexico, at an elevation that brings noticeably cool nights even in summer. The Forest Service manages the site, and on-site hosts are consistently visible and active, keeping vault toilets clean and the grounds well maintained. No hookups are available. RVs are welcome up to 30 feet, and the $32 nightly fee covers dry camping only.

Sites back up against forested areas and are spread far enough apart that campers generally report a reasonable sense of privacy despite the campground's multi-loop layout. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Firewood is available from the camp host for $6 a bundle. Fee-based showers are located near the entrance, alongside trash facilities. Reviewers note that flies and bugs tend to be minimal, and the campground draws fewer visitors on weeknights and in late September, when it may be the only one of the three loops still open.

Mary C. notes the vault toilets were "clean and well maintained," a detail multiple reviewers echo across different seasons. The campground sits close enough to Cloudcroft for easy resupply, and trails are accessible nearby. Reservations are available, and no pets are allowed. Campers who want a different configuration in the same forest can look at Saddle Campground, located roughly a third of a mile away.

Apache Campground June 2021

There are three very similar camp loops all connected to one road. The trash and showers are at the front. There is a fee for the showers. The sites are well spread out and clean. Camp hosts are on site and are visible. Vault toilets were clean and well maintained. You can park and walk out a short distance to site or RV/car camp next to site. The weather was pleasant and even a little chilly at night! Flies and bugs were at a minimum. Throughly enjoyed the visit!

Great Overnight on our way from the Caverns to White Sands

Beautiful drive on Highway 82 west towards Cloudcroft. Stop at the roadside petting zoo!

Apache appeared to be the only campground of the three open in late September. Super nice hosts and well maintained - there were even trash cans and hand sanitizer in the restroom which was a nice touch.

The sites were relatively far apart and backed up into a nice wooded area.

Hardly anyone else there on a weeknight in September.

Strange animal noises at night!

Well cared for campground

$22 a night. Vaulted toilets, but bathrooms were super clean. Campsite hosts were great. The grounds were well taken care of. Close to town and plenty of trails nearby. Sites are fairly close together but we felt we had enough privacy.
