## Overview

 Red Rock Canyon's standard, RV, and group campsites are located in the stunning Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, an approximate 20 mile drive from \"The Las Vegas Strip.\" Visitors enjoy hiking, rock climbing, bike riding and scenic driving in this unique Mojave Desert environment. Note: If visitors would like to visit the scenic drive, they must have a separate [timed entry reservation][1] for each day they plan to enter the scenic drive. Reservations are required October 1 to May 31, 8am -5pm. 
## Recreation

 The Red Rock Scenic Drive & Visitor Center is located 3 miles from the campground. If visitors would like to visit the scenic drive, they must have a separate timed entry reservation for each day they plan to enter the scenic drive. Reservations are required October 1 to May 31, 8am -5pm. Red Spring/Calico Basin is located 2 miles from the campground and is a no fee area and does not require a reservation. Activities available are miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and road biking. Guided hikes and educational programs available on certain days at the Visitors Center.

 Our campground facilities are as follows: 53 individual standard sites with a max of 10 people and 2 vehicles are allowed per site. All standard sites contain picnic tables, grills, and firepits. Grills and firepits available only as fire restrictions allow. Some individual standard sites have shaded picnic table areas. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided. 3 fully accessible campsites. At these sites, in addition to the parking spot having a concrete surface, as they do at most of the other sites at the facility, there are concrete pathways leading to the restrooms, which are all accessible. 10 walk-to sites with a max of 1 tent and 1 vehicle per site. All walk-to sites contain picnic tables and grills. Grills available only as fire restrictions allow. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided. 6 RV Sites which have room for 1 RV and 1 vehicle per site. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided. There are no hookup services (electrical, propane/gas, water tank filling, or grey/black water disposal). 7 large group sites can accommodate up to 50 people and 8 vehicles per site. All group sites have a shaded picnic table area. Each group site is primarily tenting with 10 individual small tent areas. Common vault toilets, trashcans, and drinking water are provided nearby. Grills and campfire circles available only as fire restrictions allow. Parking is limited to the campsite's designated parking. There are no extra parking areas and no Day Use Area in the campground. All campsites must be reserved online at Recreation.gov

The name says a lot. This park is goreorgus with Red Rock mountains all around you. Impossible to take a bad picture and the lake was amazing for fishing we never caught so many fish. What wonderful memories we had at Red Rock Canyon. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Red Rock Canyon

Love this campground when the weather isn't too hot. Unfortunately not all the sites have shade, which can be brutal in the summer, early autumn and late spring.

Toilets were adequate, and the drinking fountains are much appreciated. Located a couple miles from the scenic loop and many great trails.

Great October through May

I went to Red Rock on a whim to get out of Vegas while visiting my boyfriend, who was working in Death Valley National Park. We both weren't super into Vegas and Red Rock was close enough to walk/hitch hike so we figured we'd go. What an amazing experience! We were both completely in awe by the natural beauty of the area and loved rock scrambling our way up the canyon walls. We found a sweet spot to set up our hammock in between the wall of a canyon and another rock and spent the day listening to all of the animals in the canyon and exploring the natural bridges and structures around us. At night, you could still see the light from Vegas but we had a pretty awesome view of the sky regardless. This entire area is so amazing, I highly recommend camping up here.  

Great escape from Vegas

This campground is located near the park, but unfortunately is not in the park itself. Sites are first come, first serve. The campground itself is not particularly scenic, but it has what you need (firepits, vault toilets, water faucets) and it is just a couple mile drive into the park.

This is my favorite location to Camp.

Red Rock

I really enjoyed my stay here. The campground is simple: dirt patch to camp on, vault toilets, fire pit, and a table for each unit. Spots fill up quickly and are first come, first serve; so get there early. Easily about 15-20 min drive to some of the father crags, which isn't bad at all. It was nice to hang out with some of the other campers as well :) 

Great spot to camp for climbing

Unfortunately, we went to visit at prime climbing time so the campground was full of climbers.  Instead, we had to camp at the overflow area which is about 10 minutes away and a little rough for a 2WD car to get to.  We had to take it very very slow.  Otherwise, Red Rock Canyon was beautiful!

Great campground really close to Vegas (at night you can see that light beam from the Luxor). It appears that they keep adding more awnings over the picnic tables, and there are nice little benches around the fire rings. No showers, but nice bathrooms and you can get cell service (if that is important to you). There's also a nice grocery store close by. If you are coming to Red Rock to climb, you will have plenty of friends here. There are a couple of nice trails through the dessert, and there are supposed to be big horn sheep but I didn't see any. 

Red Rock Campground

Red rocks does NOT have a lot of camping options. It's basically here, or something illegal, or something 45 minutes away (Lovell Canyon). Staying on the strip, or an airbnb in summerlin are also good options. But I usually come here for short climbing trips and do enjoy the camping experience. 

I think both times I was able to snag a reservation, I had to book a group site, as they are usually the last ones left. The minimum is 10 people. However I only had a group of 8. This wasn't a problem for us, but I don't know how strict they could be if they wanted. 

I love how they have plenty of tables, and benches around the fire pit! BUT "fire season" is from May-October and they prohibit fires of any kind.

Vegas is great, but it's not really my kind of town. I prefer getting out of the city and getting back to nature. Red Rocks is a great place to make that happen. It's right outside of Vegas and offers a huge amount of pristine desert beauty. The trails vary in terrain from rocky to nice flat sandy treks. There is climbing available and if you're patient enough and have a quick eye, you can spot wildlife. we were fortunate enough to see a Kit Fox running around. I highly recommend getting out of Vegas and having an adventure here.

Great Escape from the gambling

On the edge of beautiful Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Too bad it's not closer to the canyon, but this is as good as it gets. Clean restrooms, clean sites, modern shade covers with concrete pads &amp; newer picnic tables. Don't come here for the camping, get out and enjoy Red Rock Canyon, one of Las Vegas' best outdoor attractions.

I make several trips out here each year and can't say enough good things. The group sites are large and have nice big pavilions at each site with picnic tables and fire pits.

Each site has walkways leading to platforms for setting up a number of tents.

This area Is notorious for having moderate to high winds so be ready to stake out all corners including the vestibules. Winds here are predominantly out of the east but can switch out of the west overnight. BE LIBERAL WITH TENT STAKES!

Each site has running water, trash bins and a pit toilet.

Climbers galore or maybe just seeing the sights, Red Rocks and its campground is a sight to see.

**Campground Review:**

Red Rocks Campground in the cold season is rock climbers heaven! Jeremy and I decided to visit Red Rocks Conservation Area to go, you guessed it, rock climbing. This would be our first visit to this area so after seaching the area for campgrounds on [the dyrt](http://the dyrt ) we came across this one. We knew we would be testing our luck with camping with it being New Years Weekend with limited availability. However, we were able to ask somoene that was leaving if we could sneak in behind them. He was a climber and was super kind. Let us pull into the campspot right then and there a few hours before he planned on leaving. Everyone in the campground, aka the climbing comunity, is super kind and outgoing. The vibe during this season is a laid back yet pumped up.

Bathrooms were clean for them being drop toliets. Had a solar light in them which was a nice change for those types of bathrooms. They stayed well stocked thanks to the camp hosts. Just outside the bathrooms was running water with drinking water.

The campsites were set up amazingly! Most sites, like ours, had a patio cover, which was paired with a metal picnic table. A fire ring was set up with a grill on it as well as two benches to be able to sit at the fire. There was a seperate grill if you choose to make food that way. Just past that was the "tent pad". Since this is rocky terrain they set up what almost looks like a litter box of sand for your tents to be set up, rock free! Each site accomidates up to 2 cars and however many tents you can squeeze into the tent pad.

For everything you get at this site it is only $15 a night for each campsite. They are first come first serve. There is an RV section seperate to the rest of the campground, we did not see pricing or the sites for these because they are down in another section. They also offer "walk-up" sites. You park and can set up in a more condensed area that is strictly for tents. There are a lots of options for this campground!

**Product Review:**

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to test from time to time - today I am testing Boost Oxygen! Our whole reason to going for Red Rocks was to go rock climbing! An amazing place to test out [Boost Oxygen's](http://Boostoxygen.com) new medium size as well as the grapefruit flavored one.

We took the medium size [natural flavor](https://www.boostoxygen.com/product/natural/) with us the first day out on the rocks. It was the perfect size to throw into our packed down climbing bag and gear. Packing for a day out on the rocks requires climbing gear ( harness, chalk, rope, grigri, quickdraws, and sometimes more), snack, water, and of course my Boost Oxygen.

Following the new perfect size, the mouth piece has been condensed from large size. Upon using it for the first time I immediately fel in love with the smaller mouth size. It still cups your entire mouth, but it has a snug fit. When breathing in I felt like I was getting every molecule of the oxygen. Though I will say, Jeremy still enjoys the bigger size!

I was hesitant on this flavor just because it seemed a little different compared to the other flavors offered. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't overly citrus-y, but rather light and complimentary.

Coming down and off the wall it was nice to grab my Boost Grapefruit and just take a few deep breathe with it and feel back at 100% to be able to jump back on the wall. It helped me relax my pumped muscles and focus on my next climb ahead of me.

Ranger Review: New Medium Size Natural Boost Oxygen at Red Rocks Campground, NV

On our last night of a week long trip to Utah and Arizona, with an early flight out the next morning, this campground was perfect. It's only about 40 minutes form the Las Vegas Airport but feels like you are forever away from the hustle and bustle of the strip.

Each site has a set place for the tent so you aren't trying to find a flat piece of ground for your tent as one is already provided.

Although we only used this as a stop over on our last night, we will be back! There is so much good hiking right there in Red Rock Canyon. Wish we would have had more time to explore!

Close to Las Vegas Airport and Strip but you'd never know it!

Conveniently located to Vegas and Red Rock Canyon, this campground is always full (and people are rather rude stopping by to see how long you will stay)

Sites are nice, especially if you get one with a covered picnic table to escape the sun/heat.

Extremely busy

Wow! What can I say except we spent two nights here and found it to be a perfect entry to the actual loop. It was late May and the morning heat made it too uncomfortable to sleep in. Thank God! The trails and sights in the loop are amazing. I would suggest if entering from the north (Charleston) go ahead skip the first trail in the park. EVERBODY stops here and it is quite crowded and plenty of rude people. Go up to marker 3 or 7 for a better experience. An easy hike is Redrock over look. Flat, fairly smooth, but zero shade. An early morning or evening hike. Do not miss Icebox Canyon, especially if the snow is melting or rain. Great "pop up" waterfalls all around. The canyon realty comes to life. I wore my boots for this one in case a little traction needed for water and keep feet dry. Could've kept my trail runners on and had a little better time with the heat making my feet uncomfortable. Lots of lizards, squirrels, rabbits, and we heard coyotes hunting at night. Desert is blooming and perfect to wander

The perfect gateway to Redrock 

No better place to boondock! The canyon is majestic, the trails here are not in the National Park loop so all are free to access. Abundant wildlife all around us. A ram, owls, rabbits, lizards, butterflies, etc. we primarily boondock or hike into a camp. This is the place for that. Many of the tails are day use only though so ensure you watch the markets at the top of the trailhead. Also it is super dry now so fires are out. Spring Mountain Ranch Nearby was once owned by Howard Hughes and has a secret room. The ranger was super cool and after a great conversation he allowed us to hike on non public access trail to an old cemetery. Incredible. Be cool, share the wine, and hope you can go too!

Boondock Galore!!

This offers a nice and quick getaway from the city of Las Vegas. You get a better view of tge nightsky and its quiet.

Close to Home

Campsites are super nice with sand pads for your tents and clean bathrooms nearby, but no showers. Not all campsites have a shelter for shade. Extremely dangerous in the summer if you have no shade, so I would bring pop up tarp if you have one. The views are beautiful and Red Rock is astounding!

Summer time might not be the best time to try to camp in southern Nevada but with mild fall and winter this campsite leaves a lot of options for those looking for an outdoor adventure.   

I spent much of early spring at Red Rock enjoying the facilities, the hiking, the vistas and yes the camping.  This campground does accept reservations for group sites however individual sites are walk up first come first serve and with those mild weekends they do fill up quickly.   Weekdays are suggested if you can make it out as it is a bit easier to get a site during those days.

One thing most do not consider with camping at this location is the proximity to the Las Vegas strip and all the tourists which that includes.   This campsite is coveted and many who wish to venture beyond the brights lights find themselves at this nationally acclaimed facility.

A few things to also consider before traveling here:

1- No cell servIce at the campground for any provIder, fact is unless you hike to the peaks you wIll not fInd any cell service for miles.

2- Campground sometimes appears full when in fact people are parking here instead of camping so do not get turned away without a quick once through the campground itself.

3- No hookups for electrIcal or water at individual sItes.  If you must have power you will want to consider alternative sources.

RV campers as well as tent campers are able to stay at thIs locatIon however It does sway a bIt more toward tent campIng In way of spacing and availabilIty.

Cost to camp are $15 for single tent campers like myself.  ThIs Includes a pIcnIc table and awning but more Importantly proximity to the park itself.  Most don’t inquire about stay length but for a blogger lIke myself I had to know and elected to ask, because who wouldnt want the best vIews In the area as long as possIble!  14 days!!  


Open seasonally for groups or singles

Tis place has nice campsites and well maintained bathrooms. The rock walls sweep straight up to the sky and look as if theyve been stroked by a paintbrush. There are also a ton of climbs here both trad and sport, from single pitch to multi! If you want to just plan a day trip escape from the city this is well within reach

love this campground!!!! A lot of nice hikes to go on and things to see. Always very clean and quiet and well! Just be careful if it's windy as the dust can kick up pretty bad. But overall it's amazing!

Review 

This place gets the most barren campground award. Almost zero vegetation. Periodic headlights and sounds of cars motoring past on the road which is right there (~60 yards away from some sites). Night was frigid and windy (we were there late fall)- we burned through a load of wood trying to be social around the fire and then settled on being social from our sleeping bags. You definitely don't come here for the campground itself, but as a launchpad to get to the stunningly beautiful park. The campground had a faucet to fill up on water, which tasted like a swimming pool but had all the hydrating properties one hopes for in water.

barren campground provides access to epic nature (nature part is 5 stars!)

I stayed in Vegas for several months and found this to be one of my homes away from home. Sure I was close but I also wanted to get out of the house and camp where the weather was nice. During fall and winter this place is great, even into early spring (although rain can get you from time to time then). I visited with my friends constantly and hiked many of the trails.

I loved the camping spaces out here because they opened right up into the park itself and you could literally hike from there to an adventure or drive into the main entrance and find something deeper into the park.

While those are the pros, with that also come a few cons. Coyotes are very predominant in this area so you will want to make sure if you travel with pets they are not left unattended and you will also want to make sure you put food away.

Snakes, during fall and winter these are not bad because they are not out and about, but come spring they start to resurface. These aren't your nice little garden snakes either these are the really scary bad ones.

Spiders! yep they have all the scary things out here and they are the spiders which create webs that look more like they are taking over a tree. Again this begins in late spring so that is when my hiking always stopped.

During the right time of year this place is a goldmine of opportunity!!!

The Place You Need To Live During Fall & Winter

No thrills but clean and newer sites that are perfect for trekking into Red Rock.

This campground is located across the street from the beautiful Red Rock Conservation area. It is a semi flat desert area this many tent spots (single and group) and some walk in for late comers. Reservations are recommended because in our experience it fills up fast.

Clean and dispersed group sites

We went in December to enjoy the lovely cool mountain air. The campground is very clean and the other campers seem to respect the rules as well! The bathrooms were exceptionally clean as well. There is no reception here. The only way that we got reception was to stand on one of the picnic tables that was stationed at our site. I would visit this campsite again!

Quiet and Spacious 

Red Rock Canyon is absolutely stunning. There are vault toilets and some shaded areas but I would still to staying here in any season BUT Summer. 

  

There are individual sites and group sites and all reservations are done through reservations.org. 

  

The sites are rocky and surrounded with shrubs so there isn't much privacy. 

  

No sewage, electrical, or water hookups. But there is water at the visitor center just 2 miles up the road. There is a really cool exhibit about all the processes it took to create such a beautiful landscape that you should check out. 

  

There are ample hiking trails throughout the park. I was here on a weekday and it was still pretty busy so keep in mind that you will not be in solitude. Especially on the scenic road.

Beautiful Campground and Scenery

You really can’t beat those red mountains and the beauty of the natural desert... but it’s a little hard to see it from here. The campground offers clean amenities but overcharges for the stay. 

There are plenty of BLM spots around Redrock with stunning views, but this campground will do for a quick getaway.

Rocky at best 

Camp hosts were incredibly helpful! Came here, for work, with a group of 12. We arrived well after dark and realized we would need a group site - which was closed. We spoke with the Host and worked things out sweetly and smoothly. Large tent pads, great sheltered tables, clean restroom. Not to mention- very beautiful location, with a lovely sunrise. Campground was quiet, clean, and very spacious.

Silence in the City

Camping at Red Rocks is a must. So many trails and the views are amazing. 

Beautiful 

Each time we are in the area we make sure to stop and explore here—and it never gets old! So very many hikes from easy to hard, so many different things to see from the rocks to cave drawings and plenty of plants and desert animals in between. I highly recommend visiting early in the day or later on the afternoon/evening to miss midday scorching sun :)

A regular haunt for my family 

Red rock camping is super neat. We didn’t reserve we just went for it and found the host whom told us to find a spot and so we did and it was great! Being born in raised in Las Vegas it’s a must you know it gets really hot, so make sure you pack a lot of water and lights because it’s dark. Pets are allowed and children too ha ha. Besides that you have a tent pad so there is a nice flat area for you to camp and a fire ring. I recommend reserving and making sure you reserve one with a canopy if not make sure you bring a canopy. The sun is scorching. We hiked up the little mountain which gave us epic views of red rock, all the different reds and oranges make for a photo worthy shot. 

Desert camping 

Such a great camp area. First time ever camping here and it was perfect in April... it gets hot here so bring extra water. Great camp hosts and the park was spotless. Make sure you chose a location that’s covered just for that extra protection from any sun shining down on you.  Nice walk in and parking sites if need and they are very accommodating. There is water available as well.

This was a well developed campsite but has no cell service. It's a great gateway to the Red Rock area but if you are looking for somewhere to go and work just outside of the city, this isn't the spot. I was there during the week and there was only one site left so book it in advance if you can. 

No AT&T service

The campground is good place to spend the night to visit the canyon (as of November 2020 there is a $15 entrance fee &amp; they recommend making reservations prior to visiting). The campground is on a flat stretch of land next to base of canyons. During our stay it was extremely windy knocking over our tent (yup staked down &amp; guy lined). 

At drive up I was starting to feel a little disappointed on how close the neighboring city is, but once you’re at the campground &amp; canyon you forget the city is a five minute drive away. (Reason why I reviewed it 4 vs 5- sorry!) 

Overall great spot for a weekend family trip. 

Scenic Spot

Great place to stay just five minutes outside of Town and the National Park. Some of the spots have nice shelters. 

Nice Desert Camping 

Great Campground in the Red Rock National Conservation Area. There really isn't much privacy between the campsites but the view and the feel of it makes it worth it. We stayed at site 50 just by chance and I think it's one of the best sites of the campground because it backs up on a hill. 

  

Make sure to make a reservation before coming to the campground.

  

The campground was really clean and had fire pits, tent pads, picnic tables, and several toilets. 

  

There is a ton of great hiking nearby in the Red Rock National Conservation Area. Even though you are only 20 minutes from the Vegas strip, it didn't feel like it. All in all, great campground that I would return to if I'm ever in the area again.

Great Campground Near Vegas

This campground is an easy few miles outside of the suburbs of Las Vegas. So easy in fact, I needed cell service and was able to drive five minutes to an Albertson’s grocery store parking lot to make a phone call and use the internet browser on my iPhone. As a local I was opposed to this new construction so close to Red Rock for this reason. The park doesn’t feel like a getaway as much as other parks.

The campground is closed during the summer months when it reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit by 7 AM. We camped in January and it reached the low 60s in the day and dipped to the 30s with rain at night. Spring or fall weather is much better fro tent camping. We were comfortable in an RV. 

Most sites had steel roofed canopies and all had a fire ring and grill. The driving paths are pea gravel and the roads are gravel and desert dirt. They are well maintained and a few years ago benches and railroad timber barriers were installed. Bathrooms were very clean with a bunch of sanitizer and toilet paper. Drinking water spigots were also clean and had good water pressure. No hookups are available for RVs.

Overall, this campground earned 4 stars because the views weren’t as impressive as the actual park. The park is a very short drive down the road but waking up with beautiful views is something I look for. And the proximity to the city didn’t offer the feeling of isolation I like in a camping trip. It was convenient but the city lights could be seen glowing over the hill and the sky wasn’t as dark for stargazing as I prefer on a camping trip.

If going here, the park is a world class rock climbing destination and bike riding or driving driving the scenic loop are my recommended activities.

Convenient Desert Getaway

Great camp hosts and great views.
The spots are all tent ready with hooks to help you tie down your tent. This place is spotless and well kept. They have a lot of walk in sites so no worries if you have traveled along time you will get in. 
Bathrooms are basic nothing special vault toilets.
If you hike a little ways up the hill the views are outstanding. Reserve ahead of time because you want to guarantee a spot with a bit of shaded canopy. It does get extremely hot so make sure you are prepared for the elements and pack enough fluids.

I called ahead of time to reserve a spot. I was told everything was reserve so I had to change my dates by a day. When I got there hardly anyone was camping. I was just disappointed that I couldn’t get a drive to site. Other than that, Red Rock is beautiful and a must see. Book your scenic drive tour early and take your time going around Red Rock, many trails to see. After Rainey day, Ice Box towards the end of the park is a must see with their waterfall.  Only got 4 stars because it was super windy 

Red Rock is a must see

The campsites are nothing to write home about, but the surrounding area is great. Biggest plus is you don’t have far to drive if you’re in Vegas, but it feels very distanced from the city. 

Gets the job done

This is a nice little campsite, the drive in spots all feature fire pits and shade structures. 

Walk in sites are a little misleading I feel, as the site states they also have fire pits but only have charcoal briquettes, no wood fires allowed. Walkins are also extremely close together.

Bathrooms are remarkably clean, camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. Very windy at times, bring lots of tent stakes. 

Great for the Price and Location

We love camping in this location it's close to downtown Summerlin.

Red Rock National Park Campground 

Let's be sure about this. If you're a tent camper, then just know you're going to roast between the months of May and October. The day times are brutal and the nights are barely cooler. We hit it in late May and had to find indoor fun between 10am and 7pm, returning to our campsite only when the sun began it's stunning descent behind the mountains. Even though half the sites have covered areas, don't be mistaken that you'll have shade, or that shade will be cool.  
  
But once twilight hits, you'll grok the magic of the desert. Convenient location with very hikable mountains nearby... just attempt them in the early morning. Or anytime not so summer-like. The site itself is a nice slice of desert, beautiful and dry.   
  
Curses on the RV who pulled in past midnight, tugged by a mega-truck that kept it's engine running for a good 25 minutes trying to fit into their spot. Textbook rude camp etiquette. An easy way to wake everyone up.  
  
But the rest of the camp was friendly and courteous. We had site 41. No cover, but it wouldn't have mattered in that heat. Bathrooms were decent and well placed, although quite a few were not open. One garbage bin at the entrance of the camp.

Views and Vistas

I haved visited this campsite before but have not stayed the night.  The place is currently closed for summer (Jun 2 - Aug 31). My photos only reflect the drive way and entrance, as you are not able to drive inside the campsite.  
They do have three campgrounds, main,  group and overflow.  The main sites can accommodate tent and/or rvs. Most rigs I seen during my last visit was 25 feet and smaller in the main area.  Plenty of space between sites so you don't feel cramped. The overflow had 2 motorcoaches with plenty of turn around in the area and group can fit just about any size rig. 

CLOSED from June 2 - August 31

Spots are reservable and first come first serve. They have group camping as well. They close this  campground during the summer months because it’s honestly just too hot to stay however  This campground is amazing the hosts are incredible a lot of places get reserved but people flake or whatever so if you do not have a reservation my best advice is to find the Camp host and they’ll tell you which spots nobody has shown up for because if you drive through and strike out and see that there’s reservation signs a lot of times people don’t show up so they know who was supposed to show up and who wasn’t and they will let you know which spots are available. The best thing about this place is you’re literally minutes from any free hiking and your minutes from getting in to the scenic Loop . If you are unable to get into the scenic loop One of the nearest places to hike is First Creek Trail it’s free and it’s amazing you can hike all the way to the top and it’s neat because you get to literally see water streaming through and see wildlife at its finest, icebox trail is also another neat Hiking trail mind you I’m a mom so these are kid friendly hikes!!! I have a three-year-old and a seven-year-old and they can make it to the top every time. make sure you pack in a lot of water !! if you have a dog which we do make sure you bring poop pick up bags it seems as if people don’t care about nature to pick up the poop- people blow my mind when it comes to hiking how they just let their dogs do whatever … next the petroglyph wall trail head hike is mild compared to others and enjoyable they have signage telling you about the history which is really neat. 

Back to the camping I recommend finding a campsite that has covered tables just in case you don’t bring a pop up or any shade but nonetheless they have nice bathrooms water spouts throughout and it’s a really cool easy accessible campground to where you can get to anything that you want to get to I really recommend coming here October through April because the temperature cools down but yet you’re still able to enjoy all those amazing hikes without overheating or exhausting yourself if you need to reach a store you just jump on the street and go to Charleston and the Freeway there’s many stores you can refuel get liquids anything you may need that you forgot you’re nearby to stores which is about a 20 minute drive which isn’t bad.
you’re allowed to have fires at this campground weather permitting they sometimes have wood but I would not guarantee that. also make sure fire restrictions are checked before.
each spot has a grill and a fire ring and if you’re lucky and get a spot with cover canopy then you’re Doing great. They also have walking camp spots 
Where everyone uses a community parking area and then walk maybe 100 feet to a camp spot they have shared bathrooms there as well so you don’t have to walk further to potty. they pretty much have everything all set up for you they also have a no turn away policy they’re not gonna turn you away if you’re hiking and needing a spot to stay. 
overall a super great spot to go camping even in the heat you get to enjoy the bright stars and wildlife

Desert camping with amenities 

Closest you can stay to Red Rock Canyon. The sites are small and close together. Tent pads are basically big wooden sandboxes that do not fit many tents above 6 people. 

  

Wind is an issue here. There are no natural wind blocks. Noise can be bad (climbers from all over the world having the time of their lives), but overall you can't complain being able to drive 5 minutes to the front gate to RRC.

  

Facilities are all ok and average compared to other state/national campsites. Multiple camp hosts are by the end of the entrance road. There are some walk in sites, but those are commonly taken up by the foreign climbers that are a bit more adventurous.

  

Closest food is a small strip mall about 10 minutes West on the main road. Albertson's supermarket is nicely stocked and has a great craft beer selection. Subway sandwiches, a pizza place, and a gas station make up a perfect refuel spot.

Location! Breezy! Awesome!

Everything is along the one way road and is easily accessible. It's a great driving tour if that's all you want. 

Climbing is world class!

Worth a day trip on any Vegas holiday

Fantastic one way drive through amazing Aztec Sandstone cliffs and mountains. Excellent rock climbing and hiking.

Should be a National Park!

Can't beat the location. Sites are close together, can be loud. Facilities are ok. Can be very windy.

Excellent location!

Stayed 2 nights to stock up and do laundry. Office hours were 9-5, got in at 4:45 and no one was there. So I looked for security and they checked me in.
No phone # to call, no signs. They even billed me wrong and had to debate them for half hour. Clean park with Wi-Fi, cell service was spotted.

Management is awful 

If you get a chance take the scenic drive. The campground is just fine with vault toilets, and water but no showers, sewer dump, electric or other hookups. The location is very scenic. The facilities are well kept and the hosts on site are very nice. Many sites include a hard canopy over a paved patio, with picnic table and fire ring nearby. Each also had a large, level sand pad for pitching a tent.

Low Cost Nice Campground close to Las Vegas

Sites are not private by any stretch of the imagination, but the hosts were delightful, and there are water spigots outside the bathrooms (pit toilets). 

Great hosts, running water

Nice campground with big sites. Some nice shade pavilions at a lot of the sites. Enough pit toilets for all. Water is available but no hookups. Nothing special but you can reserve sites online and the hosts are on top of things. I appreciate that. 

If I could have a do over, I think that bikes would be a ton of fun at Red Rock. Also a few more days to explore it all. 

Good jump off point for Red Rock

Stayed the weekend, RV spaces are set apart from the tent sites in a semi-circle of 5 spaces in a quiet area. There are aluminum picnic tables, fire pits and BBQ’s but not hookups. Spaces are pretty deep but not very wide. Space 5 is at the end up near a slight hill so it was a bit more private than the others which are pretty close together. It was close to home which was nice. Great view of Red Rock in the distant to see the sun set. 

Easy to book for a last minute climbing trip. Great location right outside of Red Rocks. Clean facilities. No privacy. Can get pretty windy. 

Easy and convenient 

This is a small desert campground. Drinking water but no water or dump for camper. Lots of cars in and out all night. Not sure why. Toilet but no showers. No electric. 

It’s okay

All good for a desert camp except the light pollution from Vegas city. Don’t expect to see desert night sky

Great camp close to Vegas and hiking/biking

I had been in this direction before and knew I wanted to camp here! It’s an easy drive from Los Angeles. We stopped right off the freeway at the super Walmart for supplies and then the campsite was only about 15min from there. Checking in with our incredibly friendly camp host was easy. The campsite was very clean and we had a fire pit. The bathrooms were also very clean! Red Rock State Park is only about 8 min away and I strongly suggest getting a scenic drive reservation. Once you go in you can spend the whole day there! Beautiful spot and pet friendly!

Terrific location, clean,and friendly!

This campground is open September through June and all sites are dry camping. There is a separate area for RVs, trailers, and vans but many camper vans (including ours) were in the tent section. The camper pads in this area are dirt/gravel and not all of them are level but we made it work. Each site has a fire ring, BBQ grill, and picnic table. Some of the sites (but not all) have a covered picnic table and the table is located on a cement pad. 

  

There are more than sufficient vault toilets sprinkled throughout the campground and all the ones we used were clean. No showers. No dump station.

  

The hosts were great – they are from Minnesota, and it is their third year at this campground. They made daily rounds and were very friendly. 

  

This campground is located just outside the park and therefore not subject to the park fees. You will need a timed entry for the 13-mile scenic drive from October through May (but if you enter before 8 am, you will not need it). We had only a fleeting one bar of Verizon cell service. Make sure you make reservations as the campground was full on a Monday night in mid-November.

Hard to believe how close to Las Vegas this campground is!

Quiet, lots of room between campsites, and beautiful view of sunset and sunrises. 

Spacious Desert Camping

Stayed here many times in the past several months worth of dates spread over 2005-2007, 2013, 2018, and 2025. Nice upgrades since my first stays including the shaded structure spots. 

This place is clean, a bit noisy, and very busy (busy-ness, loudness, light pollution are my reasons for only 3 stars). 

I don’t remember hearing the gun range in the past but heard it each time I stayed recently (8 nights Mar-May 2025). 

Typically booked but have been able to find a spot that was unoccupied (but reserved by someone else) by coming in late night/early morning; 5/5 on that this season. 

Busy campground close to city and Red Rock

You'd think that being nestled in the Red Rock canyon area the views from here would be amazing. Maybe they are in one or two spots, but nothing of the sort in the RV area. 

I choose the RV spots since they seemed the furthest from what is a dense camping area; made to feel more so since there are no trees or anything to block the views of your neighbors 15 feet away. To call these RV spaces would be a stretch. It was a gravel parking lot with picnic tables and a few fire pits. And again, with no views at all since it's in a bit of a bowl shaped recess. 

No cellular service until you get a mile closer to the highway, so be prepared to go off line.

I will compliment the bathroom as being adequate. 

No host on site. That didn't matter to us.

Conditions in the region change fast and can be extreme. Be prepared.

The access to mountain bike trails was nice, even though we had to cross into some disallowed spaces to access them.

Nicely located, but missing out

Easy to access from vegas but feels remote to the city! Beautiful scenery. Would recommend for tents to have the walk in site which is 2 min walk from carpark. Drop Toilets were very clean. Plenty of drinking water. Make sure you drive further into red rock because it’s gorgeous!!

Beautiful campground near vegas 

The sites are awesome. Beautiful views. Pit toilets are well maintained. There was running water but filling of tv tanks not allowed. 

Christmas at Red Rock Canyon Campground

Busy campground. No privacy at the sites but they are quite spaced out so you don’t feel watched. 
We were here in December and there was zero assistance or availability from camp host. 
We have near zero cell service (AT&amp;T).
Lots to do in the area. Hiking and mtb. The scenic route is great and tons of hikes from each stop. 
We did Kraft Mountain loop one day which is free (4-5 minutes drive from campground) - very busy but lots of parking. 

Close to Vegas, lots to do 

We camped in one of the group sites and it was pleasantly surprising! Neighbours at the other group sites but they’re so far from us it still felt like we had the place to ourselves. We had our own toilet, was clean, there are no showers but water was available by a tap outside. Abundant Parking. Huge Covered picnic area with 4 long tables with seating - especially beneficial as it rained while we were there. 
We only used the fire ring on night 1, when it rained we used our own grills under the covered area. 
The little sites for setting up tents were all paved and outlined by rocks it had a cute little nomad community feel. there is no cell service but once you hike up the little hill cell service comes back - incase you need to be in contact for emergencies. Pretty close to the Scenic Drive also and closest store was the Walmart. Would come back and bring a bigger group next time.
The only downfall is that you have to park away from your tent, so un/loading is a bit of work. I wished parking was right next to the covered picnic area at least.
