Timber Camp Campground

Within Gallatin National Forest, Timber Camp Campground sits at over 7,000 feet elevation along Jardine Road, accessed via approximately 10 miles of gravel driving from the residential area. The US Forest Service maintains three established sites here, each equipped with fire rings, picnic tables, and positioned among trees. A pit toilet serves the campground.

The road begins as washboard but improves after the T intersection with well-posted signage directing visitors to the campground. Campers should expect flies and horseflies during summer months, though conditions remain manageable for extended outdoor time. For those wanting additional forest options, places to camp near Gallatin National Forest provide alternatives at various elevations.

Timber Cam Campground

This is located off/ past the Jardine Road which seems so popular. Many comments mention there is posted no camping along Jardine road for the first five miles or so. That is true and the reason is this is a residential street. Yes it’s gravel but you will see the neighborhood as you continue on Jardine.

I highly recommend continuing to the Timber Creek Campground which is free. There were 3 established sites with fire ring picnic tables and a pit toilet all amongst the trees at over 7,000 feet of elevation. About 5 miles in you will come to a T intersection with a well posted sign to the campground the CG is approx. 5 more miles but the road which starts as washboard gets better at this point. The only reason I face this a four star is because the flies, including horseflies were rather prevelant. I still remained outside for about 5 hours so wasn’t too bad.
