Within the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, Ruby Creek Campground sits directly along the Madison River with drive-in access and boat launching capabilities. This US Forest Service facility provides drinking water, vault toilets, picnic tables, and allows both campfires and pets throughout its spacious layout.

The campground features level sites with generous spacing between neighbors, though campers should expect limited natural shade. Wind can pick up across the open terrain, particularly during afternoon hours. Thom S. notes the facility offers "boat and fishing access" with "level sites with lots of room." The riverside location provides direct access for floating the Madison River multiple times during a stay.

Campground hosts maintain the grounds consistently, keeping vault toilets clean and sites well-organized. The open design means most sites lack tree cover, so campers planning extended stays should prepare for sun exposure. Several reviewers mention the windiness as a notable characteristic of the location.

For those seeking additional options in the broader region, camping near Clearwater National Forest includes alternatives like Kelly Creek Camp less than a mile southwest for campers wanting a different setting.

Perfect Fly Fishing Stay

Perfect spot along the Madison. The hosts were very friendly too and keep the grounds in tip top shape! Highly recommend. It can be very windy- just a heads up!

Ruby creek campground

Stayed one night, 2 days here and floated the Madison 3 times, as the campground is right on the river. Well maintained sites, with lots of space between you and your neighbor.
