Kootenai National Forest's Dorr Skeels Campground sits along a lake in northwestern Montana, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and managed by the US Forest Service. Sites vary considerably: several cluster together on a hill near the parking lot, while four sit directly on the lake. Site 4, at the end of the road on an elevated position beside the water, draws the most interest. Proximity to Troy means road noise is audible at some sites. No pets are allowed.
The campground has drinking water, toilets, and trash service, with most sites equipped with food lockers. Swimming and paddleboarding are viable given the lake access, and fishing draws anglers as well. Restrooms have been reported as clean early in the season, though conditions may decline by late summer. Anglers and paddlers looking at campsites near Kootenai National Forest will find this a functional base worth considering.
