A loop road through open evergreen forest, Bitterroot Flat sits within Lolo National Forest outside Philipsburg, Montana, at $6 per night with year-round access. Sites are well-spaced, though the open canopy means neighbors remain visible. A 15-foot bank separates most sites from the river, and river views from camp are blocked by the drop. The water pump has been marked non-potable, so bring your own. Road noise is noticeable. Campers arriving mid-week in summer found the campground roughly 75% full by late afternoon, so earlier arrival is worth planning for. Rock Creek Dry Campsites and Hutsinpilar Campground are nearby alternatives if Bitterroot Flat fills.
Description
Located in the Rock Creek drainage, this campground is adjacent to Rock Creek, situated amongst ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir trees. This area is known for its blue ribbon trout stream and rugged canyon environment.
