We had water and electric

We were in site 14. We had water and electric. The shower house was old and outdated. Our electric hook up was on the wrong side. There was no wifi and no cellular service except at the office. There was also a lot of road noise. No dog facility.

Watch out for the maintenance guy

When I checked in the maintenance guy was walking around in a pissy mood about having to fix the showers. The next day, I drove down to do laundry and he pulled up next to me to yell/berate me about slowing down. I wasn’t speeding, and it was very obvious that the guy was pissed off about other things and I just happened to be the person he took it out on.

Great location, amazing restaurant, ok tent sites

I really want to give this campground 5 stars but the tent sites left something to be desired. The sites with the views that sit on top of a hill are for RVs (even for RVs, they are pretty tight spots). The tent sites sit in a field and like a previous review states, have little privacy. However the sites are flat which is a huge bonus. We were lucky and the tent sites were not very busy so we were not terribly disturbed. Site 68 is decent as there is an opening set back in the trees for your tent. Most of the fire rings and picnic tables are set pretty close together. The bathrooms were nice and there was always plenty of hot water, even when showering during the busy evening times. The restaurant is fantastic and we ate there 3 nights in a row. The night time stars are fantastic and the location is great for east glacier and many glacier (30 minute drive to many glacier). The campground is VERY clean and staff is super friendly.

Awesome view of Glacier NP!

The campground is about as close as you can get to the east entrance of Glacier NP! The views from our site were amazing. The RV sites are on top of a hill and it got very windy when the Chinook winds hit with gusts up to 65 mph. The sites are a bit close together but we were expecting that in a place like Glacier.

The campground also has a laundromat and bathroom/showers. Propane fill was $4/gal. You shouldn't count on any sort of internet while you're there though. Verizon and T-Mobile will say full bars of 4G but the data speeds are non existant. The campground has wifi but it is equally slow.

Also note that there are only 2 gas stations in St Mary and are both VERY expensive ($6/gal in Aug 2022) so we planned around it and either filled up in Browning or West Glacier.

Close to Glacier east and many glacier

Stayed in a primitive site with no hookups. Rv sites are close together. Tent sites are nice. We were in a little circle area with one other camper. Was a nice stay. Has dump station, laundry. 5 minutes from East Glacier entrance and 20 min to Many Glacier.

Nice place

The campsites are nice but small everyone is squished together so there is no privacy. There are bathrooms, showers and water. You get a token for the shower when you check in.

Good alternative

We were supposed to stay at the KOA, but they had water damage issues and told us of this campground, right around the corner. Small close together spaces for each site, but they are required with a fire ring. The showers and toilets worked well, but there was no hot water that lasted longer than a few minutes. You get limited tokens for showers and they are the only way to turn them on. They have a restaurant, which is very delicious. It has a very nice home town feel. Good service as well. They sell firewood, but it is very expensive, I would recommend driving half a mile to the grocery store in the town to get wood for less than half the price. Wildlife passes through frequently, and we were able to see a moose walking through the woods right next to our site. The staff is very friendly.

Very poor customer service

We booked 1 night for a campsite and tried to cancel 21 days before reservation, was told that it was not refundable because 1 night is the deposit and the deposit is only refundable over 30 days before the reservation. Email was sent during the proper time frame but was never responded to by the camprground.

Close to glacier

As close to glacier as you can get without being in it. We stayed in the tent meadows for one night. It was pretty busy and close together tent spots. Everyone was friendly. They have showers and bathrooms for guest use and even a place to eat. Rv spots are really tight together. We enjoyed staying here though, cool views of glacier and going to the sun road is strait across the road.

NIce sites

Excited they had a spot available when we couldn't find anything else. No water or electric sites were pretty good. Site was level. Bathrooms were clean but smelled weird.

Great location!

They have 150 tent sites and say they typically have something available last minute. We did the grinnel glacier hike and we were camping all the way in whitefish so we stayed here for a night in Between. Hot showers and laundry! You do need shower tokens!

Rustic but nice

Nice campground. Sites are a little close together for the full hookups but the electric water and sewer were in good shape.

Camp right outside the park

Decent camp grounds. Lots of spots however somewhat close together. Showers and restroom are okay. staff is very polite. Restaurant next door is handy and very good.

Great location and reasonably priced!

This is a well loved for family owned campground. We stayed in the tent camping area and felt like it gave great privacy vs. the typical rows of RVs. There is tons of shade in the tent camping areas were as the RVs were more in the open but have the opportunity to have gorgeous distant lake views. We would stay here again as the location is perfect for getting into the park while being family owned and responsible priced.

Location

That’s the only reason to stay here. Unkept sites , weeds knee high. Up on hill beautiful view if you get one facing that way. Very tight. 30 Amp only. Very dusty hard to sit outside. People drive to fast. Kick up dust. The KOA looks better. Very close to st Mary entrance

Older but GREAT location

We tent camped ( primitive). Tent camping is somewhat grouped together, some open sites, some wooded. Bathrooms/showers are in need of updating. Showers are token operated( you get 1 token per night/per person that allows a six minute shower). There is a small store, and a restaurant on property. St. Mary’s entrance to Glacier NP is 1 mile away. Most tent sites are grass, you drive and park right up to site. We stayed 3 nights, 2 of the 3 nights were a little noisey up to midnight including LOUD music until 2:00 A.M. the last night. Personally, we would probably not stay there again unless updates were made. Not much of any view from campsite either.

Near East Entrance of Glacier National Park

Johnson's Campground is conveniently located near the east entrance of Glacier National Park. Campsites are spread out and some do have electric available. Two coins are given for each campsite reservation. The showers are decent, but small. It is near restaurants and stores in St. Mary. It is typically my last stop before crossing into Canada. I love staying here because I can get up early and get into the park, up to Logan's Pass, before the crowds begin to filter in.

Reservable campsite close to Glacier NP with great cafe and shady spots

Whether you're needing a tent space, are car camping, or have an RV/camper, Johnson's of St Mary's has you covered. No matter your plans, schedule 1 meal of your stay to check out the cafe, which has some excellent food, decor, and family history.

The tent sites come with a picnic table and a fire pit. I noticed from walking around not all have a grill, so if that's important to you I'd specifically ask during reservations.

The grounds are located very close to the national park, and given how quickly the national park campgrounds reserve each year, having this oprtion close by and available was a life saver.

If you're looking to do some backcountry in the park but don't have a permit, you are well advised to show up to the backcountry offices as early as possible, and this place is nearby a station, so I liked having this option for arriving late the night before with a guaranteed spot. It was nice to be able to fill up the water bladder with potable water before all the excursions as well.

It's got token operated showers, and you get 1token/person/day with your reservation, which should be fine. Showers last 6 minutes. From the offices you can also purchase ice and firewood.

WiFi is free at the office and cafe, and available for a fee at your campgrounds. I had full bars of service at my site. It will take you 5 minutes to get to the National Park entrance, gas stations are down the road. Views from the grounds are OK, and shade is plentiful.
