Johnson's Campground & RV Park operates May through October with reservations available for both RV sites with full hookups and primitive tent camping areas. Located just one mile from Glacier National Park's east entrance, the campground provides drive-in and walk-in access across open terrain that accommodates different camping styles.
The RV sites occupy elevated ground on a hill with tighter spacing between spots, while tent campers set up in a lower field area with more open layout. "The sites with the views that sit on top of a hill are for RVs (even for RVs, they are pretty tight spots)," explains Melissa W.. Site 68 offers tent campers a more secluded option with tree coverage. Most sites include fire rings and picnic tables, though some lack grills.
The campground features token-operated showers providing six minutes of hot water per token, with one token included per person per night. Additional amenities include a laundromat, dump station, and propane fills at $4 per gallon. The on-site restaurant draws consistent praise from campers who return multiple nights during their stay. A small store sells firewood and ice, though reviewers note lower prices at the grocery store half a mile away in town.
Cell service proves limited across carriers, with data speeds often unusable despite showing full signal bars. WiFi operates only near the office building. The campground sits five minutes from the park entrance and 30 minutes from Many Glacier, making it a practical base for early morning park access. Gas stations in St Mary charge premium prices, so many campers fuel up in Browning or West Glacier instead.
Wildlife moves through the property regularly, with moose sightings near campsites. The location works well for campers prioritizing park proximity over privacy, though road noise affects some sites. For additional options in the region, consider campgrounds around Babb to the north.
