Cardwell pros and cons

Definitely great for a short stay, it is a simple campground with all of the necessities. They have two women’s showers and two men’s showers. I will say to double check your hook ups because I did not realize that I booked partial hookups! So for the price of $75 per night I do find it on the pricey side. They do have a dump station on site though. The kids loved the playground and tons of open grass space and swings throughout, and they also have a pond that you can even fish him on site at the back of the property. The campsites are quite close together, but all in all a great stay! I almost would say this one goes closer to the 4 star mark than 5 for me if that helps. Also some highway noise (we were at the very front though closest to it).

Good value for money

A pleasant surprise, it is up in high price bracket but it has cheap fuel & a free laundry. Beautiful grassy grounds & some great scenery. There is some highway noise, but is background noise.

So cool!

Great little spot. Wonderful amenities and the owner was awesome. We went with the “boondock” spot and used the facilities, which were very clean. The little bar connected to the general store was a blast!

Good one night

Arrived late because of traffic accident. Everything was great once we arrived. Had a band playing some oldies until 11p. Great level spot, good wifi speed, free laundry, hot showers.

Big commercial campground

We camped here only because the Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park (where we have often camped on trips out west) was full on fourth of July weekend. The host told us about the Cardwell Campground further west.

So we were cranky after the extra drive and the late hour, hoping to find an open site on the holiday weekend. There is also a market and gift shop there. You have to call the host and he comes to escort you to a site.

I kept asking him what the rate was but he ignored me and spoke to my husband! Only after the credit card went through did I find out we were paying $65 for one night, even with a "veteran's discount." Under other circumstances we wouldn't have stayed there as we do not usually stay in such expensive RV parks. We were to learn that private campgrounds rates have gone up.

The park was well kept and we had electric plus sewer and water.

Not tent friendly

If you are in a tent they will gouge you for $40 per tent for a crappy tent site with no services, no grass, and uneven ground. Also they will refuse to give you a receipt if you pay cash. Our group had 4 tents so we spent $160 on a poorly maintained tent site. It was an outrageous amount. A large RV and pickup truck pulled in to a site right after us and they paid $40 for that whole site. One good note is that the showers were clean and nicely done.

Getting better by the day

Outstanding customer service. Established campground under new ownership. Very reasonable rates. WiFi is a bit weak in some areas. Sites level, good utilities.

Not the best but not the worst either

This is a nice camping area although the sites are fairly close to each other. There are bugs because of the nearby pond. I enjoyed watching the bunnies play around in the grassy areas in the early morning. It is nice and quiet here. The bathrooms and showers are clean and in good shape. They even have movie dvd rentals in the store since tv reception is non-existant if you try to use just an antenna for local channels. The only bad part was that I had to move my trailer to dump the black tank because my site didn't have sewer connections.
