Pipestone OHV Recreation Area

Off-road vehicle riders and rock climbing enthusiasts will find dispersed camping opportunities scattered throughout this Bureau of Land Management recreation area. The campground sits roughly 10 miles up a bumpy dirt road from the highway, with vault toilets available at the trailhead. Multiple camping areas spread across the landscape accommodate both single campers and larger groups.

Campers can choose between sites directly at the trailhead or dispersed spots about half a mile before reaching it. The flat terrain allows approximately eight groups to camp with some privacy between sites, though no designated spots exist. Rock outcrops provide climbing and exploration opportunities throughout the area. Delmo Lake sits a short drive from most camping areas.

The rough access road requires about 20 minutes of driving over bumpy terrain, but most visitors find the remote location worth the effort. Renae F. notes it "served our needs perfectly" despite being "definitely bare bones and off the beaten path." The spread-out layout means campers don't feel cramped, and the area typically empties out after dirt bikers leave before dark.

Beautiful sunset right off 90

We pulled off on this BLM plot to stay for a night on our way to Washington. We saw a few dirt bikers but they were gone before dark and we were by ourselves. It was safe and quiet and the sunset was a beauty!

Stopped here on the way to Glacier

This was one of my favorite places I’ve camped. It was very private and as two 20 year old girls sleeping in a car we felt very safe. We just happened upon the site very late at night and decided to stay the night. It was a great spot.

Good free campsite with beautiful views

We stayed here for a night and it served our needs perfectly. It was about 10 miles up an extremely bumpy dirt road to get to the trailhead which had vault toilets. A few people camped right at the trailhead, but we opted for a campsite about 1/2 a mile before you hit the trailhead. There weren’t designated sites but campers found their niche amongst a pretty flat area that could accommodate ~8 groups with some privacy. Definitely bare bones and off the beaten path, but if you’re willing to endure a bumpy ride for 20 minutes it’s a great stay!

Very private!

Awesome camp sites all throughout. There is small areas for single campers and lager sites for glamping caravans. Lots of awesome rock outcrops to climb and explore. Just a short drive to Delmo lake from any of them. The campsites are very spread out so you don’t feel cramped. Bathrooms are aren’t easily accessible, there are some by the lake, and one right at the beginning of the road by the highway. Very peaceful beautiful place.
