BLM - Livingston

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing, hiking, and biking give campers plenty of reason to set up at this BLM dispersed site east of camping near Livingston. Roads in are bumpy gravel, and clearance matters: the Swingley Road entrance handles big rigs up to 45 feet, while at least one underpass runs only around 10 feet high. Noise from highway traffic, motorcycles, and a nearby rail line carries across the site. A handful of long-term occupants are present, but the area spans several hundred acres, giving most visitors room to spread out. Works best for self-contained rigs or campers comfortable with an open, unmanaged setting close to town services.

Train horn going thru town

Great pit-stop on the way to/from you-name-it.

You can still hear traffic no matter how far you go but it’s faint. Harleys on the road and the train going through town are however very audible.

Still, the location is very nice, convenient, and, - were it not for the above- would be ideal for longer stays. Tons of room to spread out, and “the homeless” are people too who seem to mind their own business so don’t sweat it. 👍

I also was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was. Great job, humans!!

OK for an overnight

As others have stated there are a couple of semi-permanent folks. However this site is a couple hundred acres and there’s plenty of room to find a spot that is away from every one else.

Great spot for a few nights

Referred to by locals as the “homeless encampment” there are 1-2 spots that seem to be people staying long term and maybe not the best conditions but we found our own space away from there and had no issues. Beautiful spot and close to town. There are a few ways in and 2 have underpasses. One is only ~10 ft. The one on Swingley Rd has better clearance and accommodates big rigs. Roads are bumpy/gravely. Views are fantastic.
