      Starkville KOA

      Friendly Staff

I really don't have much to say because I am a newbie. This was our first KOA site. I will say it suited us very well. It was shaded, our site was level, pet friendly, they were expecting us, and free firewood was provided. Also, we got in a little chat with some interesting local info built in.

      Lake Lowndes State Park Campground

      Amazing, Enjoyable Experience

Lake Lowndes is simply a place that every camper (primitive or RV) has to visit.  The staff from the ranger to the park host to the manager and everyone else is friendly and ready to help in any way.  The sites are paved, large and very easy to back into.  We have stayed at #43, #41, #1, #31 and #35 and we love them all.  31, 41, and 43 are the best.  There used to be an ant problem but the staff has fixed that tremendously - good job.  The park has a beautiful small lake for Boating, fishing, and other water sports as well.  Other things to do include an amazing frisbee golf course, tennis courts, softball fields, children’s playground, hiking, biking, and a huge admin building with many indoor games like pool and ping pong. The scenery is magnificent and we fell in love with the ducks, geese, and deer families that run around every night.  Picnic tables, grills, and fire pits at every site.  Do yourself a favor and visit this camp ground.

      Lake Lowndes State Park Campground

      Cottage Stay

We stayed in Cottage 1 during our Thanksgiving vacation to visit family. The location was close to family in New Hope and the cottage was nice and cozy. The view of the lake was beautiful in the mornings and we also enjoyed a nice game of disc golf. I gave this stay a 4 out of 5 since there was no cell phone signal for Verizon once you entered the park even though it’s so close to the town of New Hope.

      Lake Lowndes State Park Campground

      Good times

Really nice state park. Recently updated picnic tables. Nice quiet spots. We tent camped on a camper spot. Only complaint is that the showers could use a good remodeling, very dated. Other than that had a great time.

      Lake Lowndes State Park Campground

      Great campground!

The park manager and workers are so nice and accommodating! I’ve stayed in the cabins and the primitive sites and both had wonderful views of the lake. The hiking trail that loops around the water is beautiful. My dog loves it too! It’s such a great place to go relax, have fun, grill out, and make memories.

      Starkville KOA

      Extremely Peaceful

The customer service was absolutely outstanding! 4 stars only because of lack of amenities for kids, however, they do have games to rent from office. Unfortunately the lake has mostly dried up and no longer hits the shoreline of the campground (apparently been this way for 6 years). They used to have what looked like an awesome beach area, water slides, boat ramps etc... but it has all fallen into disrepair which makes sense now that the water has receded. Our son and his buddy still had fun relaxing, throwing the ball around and playing a few games. WiFi was not great except for AT&T which means there must be an AT&T tower nearby. All stores, Walmart, restaurants etc.. are about a 12 minute drive away if needed. All in all, it was very relaxing. If they added a huge pool, I think it’d be a big hit.

      Starkville KOA

      City by - no lake

It’s a basic KOA with clean showers, laundry, and full hookups. The lake that was a an attraction including water slides and fishing docks is dry and has been for a couple of years.

    Guide to Brooksville

Cabins near Brooksville, Mississippi range from waterfront cottages to economical rental units at several regional recreation areas. Lake Lowndes State Park spans nearly 300 acres with an 85-acre lake where cabin guests can fish for bass, bream and catfish. Autumn visitors benefit from pleasant temperatures averaging 75°F while summer cabin rentals provide air-conditioned refuge from humid 90°F days common throughout east-central Mississippi.

    What to do

Disc golf excursions: Lake Lowndes State Park features an 18-hole course suitable for players of all skill levels. "The park has a beautiful small lake for boating, fishing, and other water sports as well. Other things to do include an amazing frisbee golf course, tennis courts, softball fields, children's playground, hiking, biking, and a huge admin building with many indoor games like pool and ping pong," notes Richard W. in his review.

Waterside recreation: Town Creek Campground in West Point offers multiple water activities along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. "During the week, we enjoy watching pilots from the Columbus Air Force Base honing their skills. The barges, more frequent during the day, have the occasional after dark run. They are fascinating to watch and quite pretty at night," writes Cyndi H.

Hiking trails: Explore the natural paths around the cabins and campgrounds. "The hiking trail that loops around the water is beautiful. My dog loves it too! It's such a great place to go relax, have fun, grill out, and make memories," mentions Tiffany B. about Lake Lowndes State Park.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: The Starkville KOA maintains well-kept common areas despite its distance from Brooksville. "Bathrooms and showers were exceptionally clean. Grounds were clean. Very quiet place. I would stay here again. It looked like all the camper sites were clean and level," reports Xander H.

Lake views: Many cabins position guests for optimal water vistas. "We stayed in site 39, a full hookup site with a nice water view," Terry P. shares about his Lake Lowndes State Park experience, although he notes challenges with ants during his stay.

Peaceful atmosphere: Cabin guests regularly mention the tranquil settings. "We tent camped in the RV park with 4 dogs. Our campsite (10) was perfect- right on the water, plenty of space, nice even pad for our tent & canopy. The neighbors were kind & the bathrooms well maintained," writes Devan T. about Lake Lowndes.

    What you should know

Insect preparation: Some cabins experience seasonal ant problems. "At about 4:00 am, we awoke to find ants invading the trailer. The outside of the trailer was covered with thousands of ants and they were pouring into the trailer. A park employee came in the afternoon and sprayed all entry points around the trailer," warns Terry P. about Lake Lowndes State Park. Bring appropriate insect deterrents.

Bathroom conditions: Facility quality varies between properties. "The bathouse was clean, but very rundown," notes a Lake Lowndes visitor, while another camper mentions, "Only complaint is that the showers could use a good remodeling, very dated."

Cell service limitations: Coverage can be spotty in certain cabin locations. While most areas near Brooksville maintain connections, remote properties may have limited reception depending on carrier.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Lake Lowndes State Park offers recreational equipment for younger visitors. "They have a nice playground for the younger kids and disc golf for the older kids. And the lake is great for fishing and kayaking," explains Linda O., highlighting multi-age activities.

Indoor game options: During inclement weather, some properties provide indoor entertainment. "The park has a huge admin building with many indoor games like pool and ping pong," according to a Lake Lowndes State Park visitor, providing rainy-day alternatives.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many cabins offer chances to observe local fauna. "The scenery is magnificent and we fell in love with the ducks, geese, and deer families that run around every night," shares Richard W. about his Lake Lowndes experience.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When booking cabin accommodations, request specific locations based on needs. "We have stayed at #43, #41, #1, #31 and #35 and we love them all. 31, 41, and 43 are the best," advises a frequent Lake Lowndes visitor, providing insight on prime locations.

Arrival planning: Some properties have limited office hours, requiring advance coordination. "We arrived after the office was closed. We had called ahead and they had a site saved for us," explains a Starkville KOA guest, highlighting the importance of confirming check-in procedures.

Supply considerations: Most cabin accommodations require guests to bring specific items. While many cabins provide basic furnishings and electricity, personal items and cooking supplies are typically not included.
