Free dispersed camping along the Manistee River draws campers who prefer minimal amenities and maximum flexibility. Government Landing Campsites sits on forested terrain with drive-in access, allowing pets throughout the area. The sites lack developed facilities like restrooms or potable water, requiring visitors to come prepared with their own supplies.
The river location provides opportunities for fishing and paddling, while the wooded setting offers natural shade during warmer months. Campers should plan for primitive conditions and pack out all waste. Government Landing Campground provides a more developed alternative nearby for those wanting established amenities.
