Horseback riding trails: At Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, equestrian enthusiasts can access dedicated trails throughout the 5,000+ acre property. "There are two primitive youth group camping areas. There are specific rules that need to be followed and the guidelines are on the website," notes camper Gen F.
Kayaking and canoeing: Water recreation opportunities abound at Tuckahoe State Park, located 90 minutes from Perry Hall. "We were looking forward to kayaking along the lake and creek. I was new to the sport and it was windy so the lake was a bit scary to kayak but the creek was perfect. With all the vegetation growing back, it felt like you were in Florida," shares Melissa C.
Hiking networks: Lums Pond State Park offers multiple trail options, including a lake circuit. "An 8 mile loop trail circumnavigates the lake and can be used my bikers, walkers, or runners," explains nancy W. The park also features opportunities for water activities: "We hiked the 7.5mile lake trail with our two pups. It was beautiful and along the way there were opportunities to kayak/sup, beach it, or even play on a ropes course."
What campers like
Privacy between sites: Blackbird State Forest offers well-spaced tent camping. "The camp sites are spaced out a good amount so each site has good privacy. There are multiple port a potties here but some sites are a bit far from them. Each site has a fire pit, a grill, and two tables with a decent amount of space for tents," reports one camper.
Full hookup options: Several RV-friendly campgrounds provide complete utilities. At Tuckahoe State Park Campground, "The Electric loop has larger back in sites on both sides of the drive loop. The bath house is located in the center of the loop. A separate adjoining loop has a small playground. Sites are 30 amp only (no sewer, no water at each site). Water stations are located around the drive loop."
Horse facilities: Equestrian camping near Perry Hall, Maryland includes Artillery Ridge Campground with dedicated horse facilities. "This campground has horse stalls and rings if you would like to bring your own horses. There were a few families that brought their horses and they were right across from our site. Kids loved being able to see them and get close and even pet them!" writes Ray L.

And there are plenty of hiking trails in the state forest, complete with mushrooms, and deer-hunting-stands."
