Runaround Woods sits in the woods outside Durham for places to camp near Durham...
Let me restart without that error.
Set within a forested property in Durham, Maine, Runaround Woods operates as a small cabin-based campground with a range of on-site extras that go beyond the typical overnight stop. Guests stay in sleeping cabins rather than tent sites, and the property includes a wood-fired sauna, a cold plunge, a wood-fired hot tub, an outdoor fire pit, and a disc golf course winding through the trees. Cell service is available. Rates run $70 to $130 per night, and reservations are accepted.
The disc golf course draws repeat play. Multiple visitors mention walking the woodland layout more than once during a single stay, and the on-site pro shop carries Runaround Woods branded discs. After time outdoors, the wood-fired sauna has been a consistent highlight across reviews, particularly for guests arriving after a day of skiing at Sunday River. Host Ryan comes up by name in several reviews for heating the sauna and offering local dining recommendations.
"Super comfortable and cozy sleeping cabins in forest setting," notes Molly S., who also highlights the solar shower and picnic space among the amenities. Nearby campgrounds in the area include Maine Forest Yurts and Freeport / Durham KOA for campers who want to compare lodging styles before booking. Given the small size of the property and the hands-on hosting, booking well in advance is worth doing, especially for winter ski season weekends.
Description
The Coyote and Bobcat hexagonal micro cabins are the premiere units at Runaround Woods. Both fully powered hives each feature a queen bed, heat, AC, mini fridge, Wi-Fi access, an outdoor shower, rustic bathroom facilities, a deck, a shared grill and shared fire pit. The Owl and Harrier hexagonal micro cabins offer the same size, views, and comfort, but without climate control and normal power.
The “mammal” units are co-located so they are perfect for groups of 2-4 adults to book together. These units also have the shortest walk to the rustic spa amenities — a 2 person wood fired sauna (ready in 20-30 minutes) and a 2 person wood/coal fired hot tub (ready in 2-3 hrs). If you have a larger group, each “bird” unit is 50% off after booking both Coyote and Bobcat, which can allow you to book all 4 for the price of 3.
Runaround Woods hive cabins are located a quarter mile down the road from the Runaround Pond recreation area, less than 40 minutes from the airport and all points in Portland, less than 30 minutes to Freeport/Brunswick/Bath/Harpswell. Lisbon Falls is a nearby town to get anything you need. Popham Beach is always worth a trip and is around 50 minutes away. In Durham you’ll be surrounded by natural beauty and centrally located to explore Maine during the day. WiFi being extended beyond common area and to cabins by August.
