We had a great weekend camping at Lily Bay State Park. Easily accessible as it is a well maintained state park.The staff are friendly and keep the facilities extremely clean. Water access for all via the beach area or reserve early to get a site on Moosehead Lake. Kayaking and swimming are available from the site. Facilities are available. We had some very friendly chipmunks and a doe and fawn walk through our site. For adventurous folks, a ferry ride to Kineo and a hike to the tower is a great way to spend the day. Do your research, ferry schedules are subject to change due to weather. The hike is moderate to hard, but offers some fantastic views of Moosehead Lake.

Escape from it all

Beautifully kept park. Plenty of places to launch kayaks, canoes paddle boards etc reservations start early in the year online and waterfront sites sell out fast. They're very strict about protecting their forests and don’t allow wood from out of state -please respect that.

We have been spending several days at Lily Bay State Park every June. This year, we spent 8 nights into July. The waterfront sites are amazing, especially the Penninsula in Rowell Cove. Bring your Kayaks and paddle to Sugar Island or explore the small islands in Lily Bay. Lots of swimming spots.
there are approximately 8 private bath/shower rooms at the central bathhouse and outhouses scattered around the campground areas. There is also a two sink dishwashing station. Sometimes the water is really hot, sometimes it's frigid but the showers are really clean.
Don't forget to stock up at the trading post and enjoy food truck Crepes and other shops and restaurants in Greenville then search for moose near Kokadjo, Roach Pond, or Prong Pond. Bring your kayaks and fishing poles!
Plan to visit Elephant Mountain and see the site of the B-52 crash.
New blue tourist info and landmark signs make finding the once relatively "secret" spots much easier.

Favorite Destination

We had a great trip here over the Memorial Day weekend.  We had a lovely lakeside campsite.  The bugs were not too bad.  There was a lot of standing water, so I expect that there might be a lot more mosquitoes once the weather heats up. 
The water was cold in Moosehead Lake.  

 Beautiful Park, Wonderful Lake. 

We enjoy our weeks on Moosehead Lake. Lily Bay Campground has spacious and wooded. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There is a beach and a playground. A clean shower and flush toilet facility. The sites have pit toilets that are plentiful and well maintained. Pets are welcomed. There is a boat launch and if you get a water site you can launch your canoe or kayak from there. The hosts clean the sites after check out so they are clean and ready for the next guests. There are no hookups, electric or water on site. Water is available at faucets every few sites. There is a dump station and there is potable water to fill you fresh water tank there. Plenty of hiking, fishing opportunities. You can take a short ride to Greenville for shopping, restaurants, laundry and a hospital. We are Mainers, but Lily Bay always feels like getting away.

Maine at its best!

Stayed here 2 nights in June. Wooded sites on the shore of the largest lake in New England. Our site was large enough for tents and hammocks; which was nice to have options. The sites are also far enough away from each other that you dont feel like you're in an apartment building. Central bath and free shower house with laundry/dish sinks outside was an added bonus. Fire ring and table at each site. Rangers were super nice and helpful. Trails to beach area with a playground for the kiddos. Its pretty remote so make sure you have everything you need before venturing past Greenville. Take the drive up to(and past if you're real adventurous) Kokadjo for moose spotting.

Been here several times. We love it here. Staff was greatly helpful. Enjoyed all they had to offer with our grandchildren. Beautiful beach area.  Nice and clean. A great state park!

This gorgeous state park along the shores of Moosehead Lake near Greenville feels like the campgrounds of my youth. Sites are all tucked into the woods with easy access to trails and the lakeshore. Each site offers the usual picnic table and fire ring. 

  

Well-kept latrines are scattered throughout the campground, as well as drinking water faucets.  A centrally located, and clean bath house with flush toilets, warm individual-use shower rooms, and a great dishwashing sink is a recent addition to this large facility. The only downside is that it can be a 10 to 15-minute walk from the farthest campsite, making most people get in their vehicles just to take a shower or wash dishes.

  

The great network of trails offer opportunity for hiking and biking in summer and skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The lake, over 35 miles long offers sailing, paddling, swimming and even power boating.  The closest town is conveniently located about 6 miles away for gas and groceries.

Lily Bay is a well-maintained state park that sees a lot of traffic through the year, but has sites that can make you feel isolated. I love to go in the summer when Moosehead is at its warmest. If you're into adventuring, it's a short drive up to Kokadjo and the Golden Road, where you can look for animals of all varieties - even moose!

One of My Favorite Spots

There is not much I can add to the other reviews. The park is clean and quiet, and the sites are mostly level. The sites are maintained by Camp Hosts, folks who set up camp for a while, and clean the sites when you vacate. So, if you stay here be sure to thank your host.  I highly recommend this park.

Beautiful and Quiet

Absolutely one of the jewels in the Maine State Park System, Lily Bay on enormous Moosehead Lake is generally open year round. Historically, this area was part of the Northern Canoe Trail and an important logging tract. It’s reasonably close to the Maine finish of the AT at Mt.Katahdin. 

It is worth remembering that weather can change suddenly on the lake and on the shore including substantial wind gusts and rain storms. Herds of deer are prevalent in the campground, and there are a few coyotes. 

Lily Bay, 9 miles north of Greenville, has two distinct camping clusters: Dunn Point and Rowell Cove. Each camping cluster has a trailerable boat launch area although these facilities may be more slightly more appealing on Dunn Point which also includes a playground and swim beach. Fishing is a very active sport on Moosehead. 

This review seeks only to observe the park from a tent camper’s point of view. There are hot showers in a central location called“comfort station” near the entrance. This multi-use comfort center is kept scrupulously clean. There is a helpful shower chair in each of about 6 shower bathrooms. Otherwise, there are vault outhouses throughout the park. One generally has to arrive at the plumbed comfort station by car. It is some distance from campsites. It may be nearly a mile from some of the campsites so campers will generally use the out-houses, not central bathrooms. 

Extensive usage of RV’s in the park means that if tent campers want to avoid being next to an RV they should select sites that are classified as“walk-in tent sites”. You don’t have to walk very far when using these sites but the category protects the tent user. In Dunn Point walk-in sites are 200T; 201T; 213T; 214T; 215T; 221T; 222T; 223T; 224T; 231T. In Rowell Cove sites that are protected for clusters of tents are 33T;34T; 35T; 36T; 37T; 38T; 39T; 40T; 41T; 44T; 45T; 46T. Site 41T has the longest walk-in path in the park. These tent sites are reasonably spaced and this reviewer can say that on Dunn point the most coveted beach tent site is the non-reservable site 221T. Most sites that front the water on Dunn Point are elevated high above the water, but sites 221T; 222T; and 223T have direct open water beach access. If you are a tent camper, regardless of which site you have reserved— it is definitely worth asking the park clerks if sites 221T; 222T, and 223T are open on Dunn Point. 

Park check-in closes about 4-4:30 and after that each camper does a self check-in on the specific site that has been reserved in advance. 

The park sells ice and wood. 

The forest in this 900 acre park is mixed spruce, cedar, hemlock, birch and maple. Each night loons call to each other.

Gateway to Moosehead's vast wilderness

We were surprised to find the camp sites large and heavily wooded. You could still see you neighbors but they were far enough away to not be a bother. No electric but water was available at sites around the loop. Generators are allowed to run between 8am and 8 pm.
Nice swimming beach but quite a hike from the campsites. 
You are near the water but most sites are not on the water.
Vault toilets are usually close by and there is only one shower house for the whole camp located between the loops. Shower house is divided into separate compartments which include toilets and single shower and sink.
Ice and firewood was available at the ranger checkpoint station. Sanitation dump was located across the street from the comfort station and camp host.
Overall rustic but still nice and comfortable.

Camp in the woods

Just.. go to this campground. So worth the long drive up to Moosehead Lake. The Dunn Point section of the campground is more fun than Rowell Cove imo after camping at both. A short trail leads down to the beach and playground. It’s so incredibly quiet you can hear owls hooting and loons calling at night, and pretty much nothing else. So quiet and peaceful.

Ah-mazing 

Lily Bay State Park is a great facility.  Most of their sites offer shade.  While the sites do not provide RV hookup ability, there is a dump station on site.  The tenting only sites are premier locations; large and generously spaced.  Almost all of the campsites are spaced well, with screening between them.  The facilities are well maintained.   This was real pleasure to visit in leaf peeping season!

Awesome campsites for all styles of camping

The fact that we had water access from our campsite makes this a 5-star experience for me. Sites were private enough and showers were available, although the "comfort station" is about a mile walk away from the campsites. The electrical outlets didn't work in any of the bathrooms, either, so bringing a blowdryer was useless. But that's just a minor inconvenience--everything else was great.
