Soft Sand!

Sketchy access for my rig. I’m a pickup truck camper at 10,000 pounds and was very uncertain about getting very far in. Do I didn’t! No facilities Close to Sabine NWR and Cameron Ferry

Secluded Beach Front

Beautiful spot. Unfortunately, the area was hit by Hurricane Laura in 2020 and the nearby neighborhoods have been destroyed. Locals are in the process of rebuilding. I'd suggest having 4x4 to drive on the beach. Waves are non existent for today, but bugs a plenty. Lol.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Mae's Beach in Louisiana?

Mae's Beach is located near Cameron, Louisiana. Access can be challenging, particularly for larger vehicles. It's recommended to have a 4x4 vehicle if you plan to drive on the beach itself, as the sand can be soft and difficult to navigate. The campground is situated near the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge and the Cameron Ferry, which can serve as landmarks when navigating to the area. Given the terrain, heavier rigs (like truck campers over 10,000 pounds) may have difficulty accessing the full extent of the beach area.

What activities can visitors enjoy at Mae's Beach in Louisiana?

Visitors to Mae's Beach can enjoy primitive beach camping in a natural setting. The area is ideal for those seeking a more remote outdoor experience. While waves are typically minimal, making swimming less of a draw, the location offers opportunities for beachcombing, fishing, wildlife observation, and stargazing. The nearby Sabine National Wildlife Refuge provides additional recreational options for birdwatching and nature exploration. Be prepared for insects, which can be abundant depending on the season, so bring appropriate repellent and protective clothing.

What facilities and amenities are available at Mae's Beach?

Mae's Beach is a primitive camping location with no formal facilities or amenities. There are no restrooms, water sources, or electrical hookups available. Campers should come fully self-contained and prepared with all necessary supplies including drinking water, food, and waste disposal solutions. The undeveloped nature of this beach camping spot means you'll need to pack in and pack out everything you use during your stay.
