      Little Patch of Heaven Campground

Could never get anyone to contact us about a reservation. Phone or email. I’m glad we didn’t because we stayed not too far down at White acres campground which was a way better set up with more privacy. This is a very small campground and you are packed in like sardines with very little shade. Would not recommend if you’re passing through.

      White Acres Campground

Amber and her family were accommodating from the very beginning! Offered a cash price for a discount. Allowed us to extend our stay without issue. Amber even helped us provide puppy day sitting while we did some of the tours so we would not have to leave our pup in the camper. Very clean and quiet private shaded campsites. We were at the very end site 46 and was very private. Would definitely stay here again! Very convenient place to stay when you’re on the Bourbon Trail.

      Bourbon Trail Campground

This campground has been closed and has not been able to remove themselves from this app. They were very friendly and responded right away to my inquiry yet marked it as poor just so that folks would read this and not contact them as they no longer are open. Happy camping!

      Louisville South KOA

      Late September

Nice, quite, and relaxing stay. Fire rings need to be upgraded. They were small and rusted out.

      Elkhorn Creek RV Park

      Great family campsite

It was really easy to get checked in and set up. They have some amazing amenities to keep the kids entertained. It is right outside of Frankfurt so you are nice and close to many different attractions.

      O'Bannon Woods State Park Campground

Alright not my favorite park in the area

Campground seemed like a tight fit coming in near dark fall. Lots of shaded sites. Storm ran through that night and lots of dead limbs came down all over. Got a hole in my roof. Overall decent stay and had a cool neighbor

    Guide to Prospect

Tent camping near Prospect, Kentucky offers secluded riverside sites within driving distance of the Louisville metro area. Most campgrounds in this region sit along waterways including the Kentucky River and Blue River, providing opportunities for paddling and fishing alongside traditional camping activities. Sites typically require advance reservations during peak summer season, with many campgrounds closing or limiting services from November through March.

    What to do

Paddle the waterways: Camping at Wildcat Creek Farm provides direct access to the Kentucky River. "A campsite settled upon the bank of the Kentucky River... we delighted in a campfire as the sun set and the stars came out," notes camper Kurt B. The riverside location allows for convenient kayak or canoe launching.

Visit local caves: Located within 30 minutes of Old Mill Tent And Hammock Camping, Marengo Cave offers underground exploration opportunities. Sammii D. mentions the campground is "Close to Marengo Cave, the Indiana Shoe Tree and a bunch of Canoe trip companies." Tours range from basic walking tours to more advanced spelunking experiences.

Animal encounters: Wildcat Creek Farm features friendly farm animals that enhance the camping experience. "The resident goats, mules, donkeys and horses are very friendly - just like the hosts!" reports Elizabeth R. Children particularly enjoy interacting with the animals, which include horses, goats, chickens and a farm cat.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Happy Hollow Homestead receives high marks for its generous site dimensions and spacing. Jared W. notes "We were all impressed with the land and how spaced out the camp sites were." This layout provides a sense of privacy not found at more crowded facilities.

Night sky viewing: The rural setting around Prospect provides excellent stargazing opportunities, especially at riverfront sites. Benjamin A. describes the experience at Wildcat Creek Farm: "On a clear night it was super relaxing listening to nature and looking up in the night sky and seeing orions belt and the moon directly above the river."

Recreational features: Happy Hollow Homestead offers unique amenities beyond standard camping facilities. "The kids loved the tire swing and tree web," mentions Jared W. The tree web is an elevated net approximately 15 feet above ground that provides entertainment for children and adults alike.

    What you should know

Limited facilities: Old Mill Tent And Hammock Camping offers primitive camping with minimal amenities. Trisha A. advises: "Great place to camp right off kayak, but don't expect a shower. 2 port a pots, no running water except the river in front of you." Campers should pack accordingly with sufficient water and sanitation supplies.

Site accessibility: Some campgrounds require navigation along unpaved roads. At Happy Hollow Homestead, Marvin B. reports, "We were nervous about bottoming in the dry creek bed on way to Walnut Grove area, but no problem." Most sites accommodate standard vehicles but may become challenging during wet conditions.

Seasonal considerations: Summer weekends tend to see increased activity, particularly at sites near water recreation areas. Old Mill experiences periodic congestion as Trisha A. notes, "The end of a kayaking trip is there so the buses to pick up kayakers are in and out and gets pretty busy at the end of the day."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Wildcat Creek Farm provides natural play opportunities that engage children. Katelyn W. shares, "We enjoyed our stay, and our kids loved the animals and the creek!" The combination of farm animals and water features keeps children entertained without electronic diversions.

Safety considerations: Happy Hollow provides a secure environment for family camping. Aspen B. reports, "The forest is beautiful... The whole place felt safe and perfect for relaxation in the woods." The property layout allows parents to monitor children while still providing freedom to explore.

Connectivity limitations: Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds. At Happy Hollow, Marvin B. notes having "One bar with cell booster," indicating limited connectivity. Families should prepare offline entertainment options and emergency communication plans accordingly.

    Tips from RVers

Vehicle size restrictions: Most tent-focused campgrounds near Prospect have limited accommodations for larger vehicles. While some sites at Bourbon Trail Campground offer 50-amp hookups, access roads and turning radii generally limit RV length to under 25 feet at most facilities.

Alternative RV options: Smaller campervans and conversion vans fare better at these primarily tent-focused sites. Marvin B. successfully navigated Happy Hollow Homestead with a "20' Ford Transit ModVan," demonstrating that compact RVs can access these otherwise tent-centric campgrounds.
