Bed bugs!!! Don’t rent Cabin 5 Larkspur

I’m exhausted, the last 12hrs has been a dumpster fire. Last thing we expected was a bed bug infestation. Woke at midnight with a few annoying bites, on further inspection we were covered in bed bugs, urrrgghh. After picking them off our pj’s and getting over the initial shock we went home to quarantine our clothes, shower and sleep. Returned in the morning to checkout and trash our sleeping bags and pillows. Everyone is disappointed, and I’m out of pocket for 2 nights accommodation and 4x sleeping gear...whoever the host is should be ashamed of themselves, I’m trying to warn the next people, this cabin is booked solid but in reality uninhabitable! The porch is also infested with burrowing bumblebees, scary for kids and adults alike.

    Owl's Nest Campground

    Quick and easy

Quick, easy, and inexpensive stay right off the interstate. Water and electric on site and easy pull through parking spots. Clean bathroom and shower. Not very quiet considering the interstate is right next to it.

    Eisenhower State Park Campground

Primitive camping was small and exposed, but fun

The fivestar loop is decent for tent camping. The sites were fairly small and jammed next to each other, and half of them didn't have great tree cover, but they all have a nice firepit and picnic table.  It was super duper windy off of the lake for us, so be ready for wind.  Bathrooms were nice and clean and the staff were very nice.

Bluestem Point Area — El Dorado State Park

    Actually stayed at Bemis CG

We actually camped at Bemis Campground about a mile and a half south of this campground. Right off of the main road. There was about 15 or 20 spaces all with electric. I believe there was vault toilets only but no dump station. We had to come up to the blue stem area to dump. Nice little campground right on the lake but downside was that it was right next to the road so a little bit of traffic noise and not really any place to hike or walk. Spaces were fairly level and nicely spaced apart. Probably would recommend taking a back in spot rather than a pull through spot as the pull through were all pretty small and had no shade.

    Nice campground, good breakfast nearby

This is a nicely maintained state park. All the amenities you'd expect. No complaints. Truck stop a few miles away that had a really good breakfast and giant cinnamon rolls!

    Owl's Nest Campground

    Quick and easy stay

It was super easy to pull off the highway and stay for the evening. We called late, about 11pm and they were great over the phone and just had a slip we filled out the next morning. I wasn’t sure where to bathrooms were and it was late so it was hard to find where they were. There was road noise and what seemed like construction but it was dark enough and right off the highway for a quick stay.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: El Dorado State Park features a large lake that attracts anglers throughout the camping season. Hiking options: Explore the tallgrass prairie ecosystem on developed trails throughout the region. At Eisenhower State Park Campground, visitors can access multiple hiking paths directly from their luxury accommodations. One camper shared, "We road bikes, but the cold spring winds made kayaking impossible. In the summer, I can see why this place would be a fun destination. Swimming, boating, fishing, horses, archery, wide open spaces."

What campers like

Privacy levels: Many glamping sites offer good separation between camping units. At French Creek Cove, campers appreciate the layout. "One of the nicer lakes I've been to, and cheap, the road is a little rough, but it's a neat place," notes one visitor who valued the setting despite access challenges.

Shade availability: Trees provide welcome relief during hot Kansas summers at several locations. According to a camper at Harvey County East Park, "Been camping here since I was a kid, always try to camp at catfish point. Nice and quiet and a great peaceful place to relax." The established tree cover makes this location popular for glamping near Strong City.

Convenient amenities: Most upscale camping options include electrical hookups and water access. Visitors appreciate the practical amenities that make glamping comfortable. "This is a Great place for families to enjoy spending time with one another! Love the cleanliness of bathrooms and outdoors! Lots of fish!" reports a camper about Harvey County East Park.

Tips from RVers

Hookup considerations: Water connections may have usage restrictions at some parks. At Harvey County East Park, "Just to note, the water hookups are shared between sites and currently have signs reading, '15 MINUTE TIME LIMIT. Do Not Leave Water Hose Connected, Even If You Have A Splitter.'"

A visitor to Bluestem Point mentioned, "This was our first time camping in our new travel trailer and we were pleased with having such an easy to use campground so close to home. About French Creek Cove, a camper noted, "Very nice spots, it is a cove off of the main lake nestled way back of the main, very dusty dirt road getting here but very nice spots.
