Shady Creek Area at El Dorado State Park is near El Dorado, Kansas. The terrain consists of open spaces and wooded areas, providing a mix of grassland and trees. Temperatures range from lows in the 20s during winter to highs in the 90s in summer. Nearby attractions include El Dorado Lake, which offers opportunities for fishing and boating, and the Walnut River, ideal for hiking and wildlife observation.

El Dorado State Park
El Dorado State Park consists of four primary campgrounds, which are open to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. The facilities include nearly 1100 campsites that range from primitive to full utility hookups, 11 group picnic shelters, five camping cabins and five deluxe cabins, modern shower, laundry, and restroom facilities, swimming beaches, as well as a trail system consisting of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. A concrete trail for wheelchair access is also available. Fees required for the state park include vehicle permits, camping and utility permits, special event permits and reservations. All permits must be purchased before facilities can be used. Permits can be purchased from the state park office, gate houses, camp hosts, or the self pay stations.
- The El Dorado State Park's Amphitheater, Bicycle Trail, Boat Ramp, Hiking Trail, Horseback Trail, Multi Use Trail (Horse, Hike, Bike), Nature Trail, Playgrounds, Shelter Houses, Shoreline Fishing Potential and Swimming Beach are located within 10 miles inside the park.
EL DORADO STATE PARK GENERAL INFORMATION
Contact/Payment Information:
- The State Park Office is open Mon-Fri, 8am to 4:30pm and on the weekends during peak season. If you have any questions, you can contact the Park Office during normal business hours at (316) 321-7180. In the event of an emergency call 911.
- Gatehouse Pay Stations are open during peak season, hours will vary.
- Self-Pay stations are available (cash only) at the entrance to each campground and at the State Park Office.
Cabin Information:
- Your cabin door code is the last four digits of your phone number from your reservation. Check-in time as after 3pm, check-out time is 12pm.
- Bed linens and towels are not provided by the park.
- SMOKING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED in the cabins.
- The cabin must be clean and trash free upon departure. You are responsible for payment of any damages to the cabin and you will be billed accordingly for any damages or additional cleaning that must be accomplished.
- Cabins are pet-friendly but will require a $50, non-refundable fee to be paid at least 48 hours PRIOR to check-in, if not paid during the reservation process.
Kansas State Park Regulations Summary:
- All motorized vehicles entering the state park must have a valid state park permit displayed in the windshield. Vehicle permits are not included with your reservation.
- UTV's (golf carts, mules, etc.) are permitted but must have an Unconventional Vehicle Permit attached to be legal. UTV permits are available at the gatehouses and the park office. ATV's are not permitted.
- Only one camping unit is allowed on a campsite. Camping is only allowed on designated sites.
- Quiet hours in the campground are maintained from 11pm to 6am. Generators are prohibited during these hours.
- Campfires are restricted to fire rings and bbq grills. Any digging, leveling of the ground, or cutting of any vegetation is prohibited.
- Alcohol is prohibited at all designated swimming beaches.
- Pets must be kept on a leash and are not allowed on the swimming beach areas.
- Fireworks are prohibited.
- Dumping of black and grey water is prohibited. Please use a designated dump station.
- Fishing is prohibited on designated swim beaches, in swimming areas, on boat ramps and on courtesy docks.
- All trash must be disposed of in provided trash containers. If no containers are available, please take your trash with you.
- Firearms may only be discharged in designated shooting or hunting areas.

Directions
1. From the Kansas Turnpike: Two exits exist for El Dorado State Park. From the El Dorado North Exit, turn south on 77hwy about 1/4 of a mile and then turn left onto Myers Rd. into the park. If you continue south into El Dorado, Ks, then turn left on 12th street, which will take you to the park. From the Cassoday exit on the turnpike, go south on 177hwy approximately 14 miles to NE 10th street, then turn left to the park. 2. From the city of El Dorado, Ks. go north on Main St. to 12th street, then turn right to travel to the park. You can also travel East from El Dorado, Ks. On Central street, approximately three miles to Bluestem Rd. Turn left and travel approximately 1.5 miles to the park.
