Wide Open Expanse Surrounded By Loads of Options

This Walmart Supercenter is seriously super because of the largesse of its parking lot in addition to being very conveniently located to nearby I80, which no doubt you were driving on before reaching this review. Additionally, by parking in this location, you will have front row seat access to all of the amazing bounty of retail excess that this spot will provide you.

To begin with, when we drove through, I was a little put off by the sheer wide openness of this particular parking lot, but if you do chose to park here, I would encourage you to park as close to the exterior ring that is nearest the main road with all the traffic, as ironically, it is the area that has the least traffic and posits you furthest from the actual storefront, where things get busy, right?

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, fret not, there’s a decent smattering of joints like Steak‘n Shake, Culver’s, Texas Roadhouse, Taco Bell and Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. But if you want a serious meal that you won’t soon forget, then head on over to Estela’s Fresh Mex, which has amazing ambiance along with some really amazing chimichangas.

Need to load up on supplies and groceries that you can’t find in this Walmart? Not a problem, as there is an Aldi’s, Walgreen as well as a CostCo.

That said, if you are looking for a slice of nature while you are here in central eastern Iowa, then just head due north of this location to the Iowa River, near the Denovian Fossil Gorge, where coincidentally there’s like 10 or so pristine campgrounds that you’ll be upset that you hadn’t discovered first before reading this far down in my review!

While scoring criteria may vary from one person to the next, here are the 5 most important criteria that informed my rating of this overnight location: convenience (EZ on- and off-access), safety & security, quality (of facilities), peace & quiet and amenities (either on-site or nearby). Here’s how I ranked this particular overnight spot:

Convenience: 5

Safety & Security: 4

Quality: 4

Peace & Quiet: 4

Amenities: 5

Overall, I scored this location a 4.

Happy Overnighting!
