Mississippi River - Pools 11-22

Overview

With impressive views of the mighty Mississippi River, Fishermans Corner provides convenient RV and tent camping facilities for outdoor enthusiasts. The lush river landscape provides plenty of shade, and activities from water sports to hiking to wildlife viewing. Eagle watching is particularly popular during the winter months at Fishermans Corner.

Recreation

Although there is no river access from within the campground, the Fishermans Corner Day Use facility is a short walk away and offers numerous fishing areas as well as a canoe ramp. Visitors can also catch a weekly educational program at the amphitheater located within the campground. The Central Trail section of the famous Mississippi River Trail passes directly in front of the campground, offering visitors miles of walking and biking trails along the river bank. The expansive Elton E. Fawks Bald Eagle Refuge and Nature Preserve and the Illiniwek Forest Preserve are also located just minutes away.

Facilities

Of the 51 reservable campsites, 46 campsites have electric hookups and 5 campsites do not have electric hookups and are for tents only. Fisherman's Corner provides the comforts of modern camping, including drinking water, a shower house, electric hook-ups, flush toilets, while still providing visitors with an authentic outdoor experience.

Natural Features

Fishermans Corner offers an excellent view of a small aquatic marsh near Locks and Dam 14, which is home to an array of wildlife species. On any given morning visitors may see turtles sunning on rocks near the river bed or countless bird species hunting the shallow waters for food. The scenery during camping season never disappoints, whether it's the vivid greenery during the spring or the breathtaking medley of colors during the fall.

Nearby Attractions

The John Deere Pavilion, an interactive museum spanning almost 200 years of the famous American agricultural company's history is located a convenient 20-minutes away by car. For a more exotic experience, the Botanical Center located in Rock Island, features an array of colorful plant species located in both indoor and outdoor gardens.

Great basic campground

Place was calm, relaxing, and even quiet, despite the holiday weekend. Bathrooms were quite clean. Water was a little hard to get, depending on the site.

Lovely river view campground

Although we only live about 40 minutes away, this felt like we had escaped to a riverside sanctuary. It’s right off of a riverside highway, but it doesn’t feel too loud while you are camping. If you get a site on the southwest side of the camp closer to the river you will definitely not be bothered by traffics noise. The campsite it also right by train tracks, but we only had one train the whole weekend. The hosts were absolutely the best! They walk through the camp each night checking sites and are very easy and fun to talk to. The only downside to our stay were the shad flies closer to the river spots that covered RVs and cars. The bathroom/shower house was clean. There are also pit toilets on both sides of the campground. There aren’t water hookups for each site, but there are a coils of spots to fill up potable water. We loved walking the campground as well as the bike path nearby. We will definitely be back again!

Everything you need on the cheap

I’ve been trying out free camping. After three days of hiking I need a shower and some electricity. I’m so glad I did this. Excellent AT&T service, remote worked from my site for four hours today and loaded all my pics from the last two days last night. Bathrooms were spotless and water is drinkable. In fact I can tell the difference from my spring water. My site was funnier than I thought it would be.

Very nice, along the Mississippi River.

All sites are paved or cement with electric, some have water. There is a dump station. The bathrooms are a little dated, but very clean. Showers available with warm water, bearable. Fire wood is also available. You do get some traffic noise and one train went by. Overall it's a clean and well kept campground. Great sunset over the Mississippi River.

Train

Train tracks are right next to the sites. It would wake us up in the middle of night and honk its horn right next to us. We had a tent site right next the bathroom, plenty of shade for those back end sites. The showers had a push button so it was hard to get the right water pressure and temperature. Host was very nice and attentive, she warned us about severe weather coming our way. Small spaces but neighbors were also nice.

Train

It’s a good thing that I’m a heavy sleeper because we were camping about 10 feet away from the train tracks. Maintenance on the sites and bathroom is very well kept. Other than having the fear of a derailed train, it was a very nice camping site with a very helpful host.

Cool location but sites too close

I stayed here while driving out to Colorado from the east coast and had a good experience overall. It was cool to camp along the Mississippi River and campground is well maintained. My one complaint is that the sites are packed tightly together and more suited for RVs than tents.

Camp on the Banks of the Mississippi

This Army Corps of Engineers’ campground is on the banks of the Mississippi River. Your federal pass gives you half price so the $20 nightly fee is reduced to $10.

Some sites are directly on the river. Site 13 seemed to be one of the best situated. We stayed in Site 12 which had a beautiful, unobstructed view of the river. Additionally, Site 12 was very level,

The campground includes both flush and pit toilets. Further, men’s and women’s showers are included with camping fee.

The restrooms and showers were fairly clean. Many friendly people, with the campground quieting down early. The evening we were there a beautiful sunset filled the sky over the Might Mississippi.

It appeared a lot of campers were settled in for one or two-week stays. We saw individuals fishing. Additionally, there are boat tours and sunset cruises offered nearby. Le Claire, Iowa is across the river. Fans of American Pickers can visit Mike’s original Antique Archaeology store.

Definitely a unique campground and a rare opportunity to spend the night on the Mississippi.

Lovely stop

Some sites are right on the river w/ views - worth it to try to get those.  Our spot was last min and just a short walk from river - still beautiful.   Very clean, little playground for kids, nice spacing between sites.  2 dump stations so no congestion to dump.  Potable water between sites (not for fixed hookup) and good electric.  There's a train but it was infrequent so it did not disrupt our sleep, in fact, all four of us accidentally slept VERY late!

Camp is immaculate

We liked the camp. The place is immaculate, quiet as well as being on the Mississippi next to a lock and dam. There are no ADA camp sites, no Wi-Fi and only two bars of cell (ATT) at the park. A lot of the sites are long but are hard to get in and out, The camp ground keeper was very nice (Don) but the check in was not as nice. The man at the window was very grumpy and would not wait on us for 5 minutes or more. But I did get a lot of nice help from the Ranger’s. They were very nice and helpful.

Hidden Oasis

We stopped over last night and had a great experience. First, the place is immaculate. It’s also RIGHT next to the mighty Mississippi which is so cool. One city block away is a day use park (also called Fisherman’s corner) that allows you to walk out to onto the lock and dam. The pedestal at site 3 was not great. Our lights flickered all night but the AC kept going. There weren’t any real mosquitos, just a couple.

FYI You MUST check in with the camp office, unlike other campgrounds.

The showers looked fine but dated.

A couple epic spots, riverside on the south end of the park. The very last two have uninterrupted views of the river and excellent spacing. The north end loop spots are super close together.

Great Stopover

General: We have really come to appreciate US Army Corps of Engineers (CoE) campgrounds. They are affordable (especially for seniors) and generally have decent facilities. Fishermans Corner was just an overnight stop for us since we could not get into our desired campground on a holiday weekend but for$10, it was a great value. Bugs were not too bad when we were there (October) which was surprising as it was so close to the river and still warm. The after-hours check-in procedure was a little confusing. We thought we needed to check in the following morning when the booth was open, however, we were chastised later in the evening by the grumpy “campground fee attendant” for not calling to register (we had reserved and paid online).

Sites/Facilities: Site 40 had an electric hookup site with a generous sized level concrete pad, picnic table, and fire grate. The sites are a little too close together for our liking (our neighbor’s a/c could have been like white noise to some but not me!) Some sites are directly on the water (Sites 8, 9, and 10) plus several more that have a view of the water; these are in the loop to the left of the entrance) and they are the best in my opinion. There are two loops with a bath/shower house centrally located between the two. There is a pit toilet at the end of each loop.

Bathhouse: The bath/shower house was decent (flush toilets, soap dispensers) and it was clean (although I did not use the shower so cannot comment on that).

Conclusion: Not too much to do although there is a nearby day-use area. Main con is the road noise, especially in the morning during commute hours. Although the campground is immediately adjacent to train tracks, I only heard one train around 10 am.

Right on the Mississippi!

This is a really nice campground right on the Mississippi! The campground is quiet with level gravel pads with a picnic table and firepit. The sites have electric, water to fill your tanks with dispersed throughout the campground, and a dump station. The sites are well spaced and the campground itself is feels more like a park that happens to have RV parking. There was a playground, showers, pit toilets, and even a small amphitheater next to the river. And the views are incredible!!! There are a few non-electric tent only sites as well. We were disappointed that we could stay one night due to our schedule. We will definitely stay again!

Stunning!

Met in the middle to go camping with a friend from Indiana. The views were just stunning. Absolutely breathtaking. We had site 51, and could see and hear the river from our campsite. Sunset on the river, the amphitheater, the park, the sites themselves, all solid 5 stars from us! The only downfall, the bathrooms were clean...ish. They were usable, but definitely could have used a more rigorous and more often clean, especially with covid precautions in place and posted throughout the campground. 100% would stay here again!

Super Convenient and Friendly People

We stay a second night in the area and this was our second campground. It was an upgrade, because of the views and facilities. It is right on the banks of the Mississippi, which was nice. There are a couple of different options to choose from but we stay in site 13 and it was right on the water and had electric hookups.

We spent the morning biking the Great River Bike trail as we enjoyed the perfect weather. It was a slow day in the campground and many sites were still open so the noise from within the campground was at a minimum. We say outside and enjoyed the fire and views.

You have to move your camper..AGAIN

We had reservations for 7 days. On the 3rd day we were asked to move our camper due to trees being cut down. We moved our camper to an approved site by the host and was assured we could stay on that site for the remainder 4 days. On day 6 we we told we needed to move AGAIN due to someone coming in with reservations on the site we were on. We were parked directly across from the host and he asked if we just pulled in. WHAT? We been parked there for 3 days. We packed up and left with no refund. The host never apologized for their error and insisted it was our fault.

The bathrooms are very clean, but no hot water after telling the host twice. Fish flies were terrible that we couldn't even walk the beautiful grounds.

The best campground along the Great River Trail

As with all the campgrounds along the Northern Illinois Great River Trail, it is along side Rt. 84, and railroad tracks. That is a part of the Mississippi commerce, and should not be used to withhold points when reviewing this campground. This is one of two Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds, and although much smaller than Thomson Causeway, much nicer, and I think much cleaner. Although Thomson has less RR noise, there is the hunting, with parts of the park closed off, and gunfire going from dawn to dusk...I find the trains the lesser of the evils! From this campground you can go north, as far as Savanna. Going south will take you through Hampton, East Moline, Moline, Rock Island, and you can cross over to Davenport, circle Credit Island, and pick up other paths in Iowa. With plenty of sights and restaurants to choose from, it can fill an entire day. For those in to mountain biking, there is the Illiniwek Forest Preserve 5 mile trail, just a mile south of Fisherman's Corners. Some call it the best trail in Illinois. I have never had an issue at this campground, it is as if easy-going, peace loving folks are drawn to it.

Beautiful view of the river...loud highway beside your head while sleeping. This was our way to spend a little time with the Mississippi River on our trip home from our West. The facilities are nice, but this place is right on the highway AND train tracks.
