Anglers and paddlers find direct access to the Withlacoochee River at this primitive campground within Withlacoochee State Forest. The site provides full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections despite its designation as a primitive camp zone. Forested terrain surrounds the camping area, with hiking trails extending through the property.
Reservations are accepted for this drive-in accessible location, and pets accompany campers to the riverside setting. The campground sits roughly 3 miles north of Bearhead Hammock Primitive Campsites — Withlacoochee State Forest, another state forest option. Campfires are permitted throughout the area. Book ahead during peak fishing seasons when river access draws the most visitors.
Description
The Two Mile Prairie Tract Oxbow Primitive Camp Zone Paddle-In is located within the Two Mile Prairie Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest (Citrus County), about 10 miles north of Inverness, FL. This campground is a paddle in and paddle out site only. There is no water and there are no amenities, although some areas may have a fire ring and/or picnic table. The camp zone is delineated by yellow colored bands on the trees and is approximately four miles from SR-200 on the Withlacoochee River. Recreational activities featured here are: hiking, canoeing, paddling, bird watching, wildlife viewing, fishing, star gazing, wildflower viewing and nature study.
The paddle in primitive campground is also accessible from the Oxbow Recreation Trailhead Parking Area on CR-39 west of SR-200. It is approximately a 1/2 mile walk in to the campground from the south to north.

From SR-200 paddle north on the Withlacoochee River approximately 4 miles. The Paddle In campsite is on the west side of the river and north of CR-39 (E Withlacoochee Trail). From US 41 just south of Dunnellon, take C-49 south 5 miles to entrance parking area on left. From SR 200 southeast of Dunnellon, take C-49 north 5 miles to entrance parking area on left.
