Ross Prairie Campground

With just 14 sites arranged in a compact loop, Ross Prairie Campground operates as a state park facility offering full hookups and pull-through access for RVs. The campground sits within the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenways system, providing gate access during off-hours for registered campers who receive entry codes at check-in.

Road noise from Route 200 reaches most sites, though campers report the outer loop positions offer better spacing and more privacy from the traffic sounds. Darlene W. suggests "a site as far from the road as possible, 3 seemed like the best site to me." The campground lacks significant shade coverage, and some interior sites sit closer together than others.

Multiple trail systems connect directly from the campground, including the Ross Prairie Loop, a 3.5-mile route that transitions between wooded sections and open prairie. Horse trailer parking accommodates equestrian visitors, with riding trails extending through the greenway. Jennifer L. notes there's "no water for horses but creeks on trails during summer." Hiking and biking trails share the same network, though some visitors mention trail markings could be clearer.

The recently remodeled bathhouse with showers serves all sites, though its central location means some campsites require a longer walk. Camp hosts assist with site assignments and provide local information. The facility maintains 50-amp electrical service and stays relatively uncrowded due to its small size. For those seeking alternatives, Shangri-La Trailhead & Campground sits 3.4 miles east along the same greenway system.

Beautiful little campground, lots of trails

Only 14 spaces, so very small, but nice. Lots of space between sites. Lots of Hike, bike horse trails are very nice and easy to navigate. Very clean bathroom/showers. The only negative is that it's not far from the raid, you can hear the traffic and it's somewhat busy.

Infuriating

Was told they had no open spots, when we checked online ahead of time. Poor management, judgemental and profiling. Would never go back.

Quirky but worked

A quirky little place. The positive is that the sites, especially around the outside loop, are spaced nicely and private. It’s not a bad drive to Crystal River or Ocala. The bathroom, although not particularly convenient to the sites, is newly remodeled. And there are biking and hiking trails right at the campground. However the layout is somewhat funky and the road noise is bad. I suggest a site as far from the road as possible, 3 seemed like the best site to me. Also, this is now a Florida state park, but you wouldn’t know it. Seems a bit of an identity crisis between the state park, state forest and greenway that goes by here.

Clean little campground

This little campground is a nice little campground. Pluses are everything is super clean, the camp hosts are amazing, its easy to get to, great access to Ocala or Dunnellon, all sites are pullthrough, ground is small and quiet, 50 amp, and access to great trails for hiking, biking, horse back riding, and walking. Down sides are noise from rt 200, some sites are compact, and it lacks shade. We would definitely consider staying here again if we were in the area.

Great place!

Great for camping and horses. Amazing 2.3 mile hike that has a little bit of everything. Near Dunellon and Swampys Restaurant. Staff went above and beyond.

Secluded gem

Small campground with clean sites and facilities. Has both hiking (me sure you have a map, because trail is poorly marked) and equestrian trails.

Smaller but Quiet Campground Stay

Located near Dunnellon, FL and is part of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenways. Smaller campground - 15ish sites. All sites are pull thru for you rvers out there! Definitely quieter here. Hike the Ross Prairie Loop, a 3.5 mile trail that is part wooded and part prairie.
