Accessible year-round with reservations available, Shangri-La Trailhead & Campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet and charges $18 per night. This state park facility caters primarily to equestrian campers, with horse posts at each site and direct access to sandy riding trails that extend for miles across the Cross Florida Greenway. The campground sits close enough to Interstate 75 that riders can cross over to additional trail systems.
Sites provide adequate spacing with most offering good shade coverage. Campers consistently note the clean restrooms and shower facilities, though the proximity to equestrian activities means horse sounds ring out in the morning and occasional barn odors drift through the area. Lightning bugs outnumber mosquitoes during warmer months. The sandy trail system attracts mountain bikers and hikers as well, though rattlesnakes inhabit the area and require caution.
Cell service reaches the campground, and the location provides convenient access to both Belleview and Ocala for supplies. AJ G. notes the campground offers "easy access to hiking and riding trials" with a "short drive into both Belview and Ocala." Coyote calls echo at night, which can unsettle dogs unfamiliar with the sounds.
For a different equestrian experience, Shangri La Campground sits less than two miles north with additional horse-friendly amenities.
