Mystic Springs

Managed by the Northwest Florida Water Management District, the Lower Escambia River Water Management Area holds Mystic Springs, a dispersed drive-in campground outside Jay in the Florida panhandle. Sites spread across open flood plain terrain, with several positioned alongside ponds that form part of the river's natural overflow system. Reservations are required, and the campground stays free to use.

Site 7 draws repeat visitors for its pond-side placement away from the main cluster. The sites near the boat ramp give larger rigs more room to maneuver, though one reviewer with a 30-foot tow-behind reported fitting into site 7 with some maneuvering. Paddleboarding is viable on the ponds. Some boat ramp traffic passes through, but reviewers describe it as low-key. Campers have flagged occasional issues with squatters occupying reserved spots, so arriving with confirmation in hand is worth the effort. Cleanliness gets mixed marks across reviews, with at least one mention of trash needing more frequent pickup.
