Mystic Springs

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Managed by the Northwest Florida Water Management District, the Lower Escambia River Water Management Area holds Mystic Springs, a dispersed drive-in campground outside Jay in the Florida panhandle. Sites spread across open flood plain terrain, with several positioned alongside ponds that form part of the river's natural overflow system. Reservations are required, and the campground stays free to use.

Site 7 draws repeat visitors for its pond-side placement away from the main cluster. The sites near the boat ramp give larger rigs more room to maneuver, though one reviewer with a 30-foot tow-behind reported fitting into site 7 with some maneuvering. Paddleboarding is viable on the ponds. Some boat ramp traffic passes through, but reviewers describe it as low-key. Campers have flagged occasional issues with squatters occupying reserved spots, so arriving with confirmation in hand is worth the effort. Cleanliness gets mixed marks across reviews, with at least one mention of trash needing more frequent pickup.

"Woke up to beautiful sounds of nature and someone coughing up a lung for hours," notes Pam H., a reminder that site spacing, while generous, doesn't guarantee solitude. Toilets and picnic tables are on-site, cell service is available, and the campground is listed as ADA accessible and big rig friendly. Nearby, Cotton Lake and Chumuckla Springs RV Resort give campers alternatives in the same corridor. Download a site map before arrival since the layout can be confusing to navigate without one.

Great quiet spot

We scoped this site while staying at Cotton Lake. This campground is more spread out. We reserved site 7 which is away from most other sites and right on one of the ponds. The ponds are flood plain ponds so not great view but better than another camper. Pretty much had the place to ourselves. Some traffic coming and going from boat ramp but nothing noisy. We have a 30ft. tow behind and had to finagle it into the spot but got in just fine. The sites around the boat ramp are better for big rigs. Going to paddle board there today and will edit if anything notable.

Had to run off people out of our sight

Pulled up to our reserved spot and there were campers in our spot. We forced them out so we could set up..They tried to tell us there were open spots down the road ... Told them they can go to those spots since I booked this one. Woke up to beautiful sounds of nature and someone coughing up a lung for hours! The campsite itself was very nice, clean, and big. Just wished we had better company around us. We will give it another try later this year.

Very nice and quiet .

This was a nice spot and was free. You do have to have a reservation. It's a little unlevel and best to back in. Be sure to get a site map, or it will be hard to find.
