Ocala National Forest holds Blue Sink, a free dispersed site in Altoona accessible only by hike-in or walk-in. Access has changed: the US Forest Service removed trees and blocked the former easy-access roads, so reaching the site now requires an ATV or a planned backpacking approach. The site sits near lake and river water, and campfires, pets, and alcohol are all permitted. Cell service is limited in this part of the forest. Campers exploring dispersed camping outside Ocala National Forest will find this one of the more remote options in the area. Come prepared with water, navigation tools, and a clear route before you go.
