Mature noble fir trees shade the grassy sites at Stoner RV Resort, set along Stoner Creek in the Dolores River Valley between Dolores and Rico, Colorado. The campground runs along the creek, with some RV spots positioned directly on the water's edge and a central open lawn area where kids and dogs have room to move around. Cell signal is essentially nonexistent here, but the onsite WiFi is reliable enough for calls and streaming, which multiple reviewers have confirmed.
The host, Scott, is mentioned by name in nearly every review, and his approach to hospitality is specific enough to be worth noting. Welcome gifts typically include farm-fresh eggs from his chickens, banana bread, and coffee. Wood is stacked at each site at no extra charge, fire pits are included, and gas grills with propane come standard. "The grounds are spotless," notes MP C., who also points out the pavilion with live music, group fire pits with swing seating, and two small fenced dog parks. Free laundry, hot showers, and a camp store round out the amenities. Tent campers get shore power included in their rate.
Full hookups cover electric, water, and sewer for RV sites, and rates run $30 to $60 per night depending on site type. One reviewer noted some road noise at night, which is worth knowing if you're a light sleeper. The season runs May 1 through December 1, and Ronald notes that an October visit brought snow, so late-season campers should pack accordingly. Nearby alternatives include Poor Farm RV Park just up the road, or Mavreeso Campground to the north for a more dispersed forest setting. Campers exploring camping near Dolores will find Stoner sits roughly 20 minutes outside town.
Reservations are available online and worth making in advance for summer weekends, when the central lawn and river-front sites fill up quickly.
