Description
Gold King Basin tucks into the high San Juan Mountains of Uncompahgre National Forest, surrounded by subalpine terrain and framed by Silver Mountain and Palmyra Peak rising close to the east. Gold Creek runs just below the camping area, and the Alta Lakes basin sits within easy reach to the north. Access via FR 632.1C (Gold King Basin Road) is suited to high-clearance vehicles; the remoteness and elevation make this a genuine backcountry camp with sweeping mountain views.
