Picket Wire Corrals

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Comanche National Grassland's Picket Wire Corrals sits at a trailhead area in southeastern Colorado, primarily known as a staging point for hiking to the Picketwire Canyon dinosaur tracks. The site has a vault toilet and cattle corrals on-site. Dispersed camping is available throughout the surrounding area, with campfire use permitted when fire danger is low. Cactus is common ground cover, so tent placement takes some care. The access road is dirt and becomes impassable when wet, which can close the route entirely. Campers wanting a more established site should consider Comanche National Grassland Withers Canyon Trailhead Campground, roughly six miles further along the same corridor, among places to camp near Comanche National Grassland.

A dispersed camping area near dinosaur track trailheads with basic vault toilet facilities. Campers appreciated the abundant site options and scenic hiking access, though cactus presence and uncertain camping status were noted concerns.

Probably not intended for camping.

There is a vault toilet and cattle corrals here. I'm not sure it is an intended spot for camping, but if the road to Withers canyon is closed because of rain, I'm sure its reasonable to camp here. I recommend driving the extra six miles to the Withers canyon campground, but keep in mind that road isn't passable when wet.

Great camping spot !

There’s disperse camping everywhere around the trailhead, which gives lead to endless campsites. You can even have a safe fire as long as fire danger is low. The hike is easy going and very scenic. Started at 1 p.m. was back at camp by 7. Only con is there is lots of cactus around.
