Roadhouse Restaurant

Twenty miles east of Barstow along Highway 58, Roadhouse Restaurant operates an overnight parking area that functions as a practical desert staging point rather than a traditional campground. The facility lacks typical camping amenities like fire rings, picnic tables, or hookups, but provides ample space for RVs and vehicles on level ground with cell service available.

Train traffic on nearby tracks creates daytime noise, though one reviewer notes the trains quiet down after dark. The expansive lot accommodates truckers and commercial vehicles alongside campers, with enough room that engine noise and generators rarely become issues. Campers often use this spot as a launching point for Mojave Desert exploration, taking advantage of the on-site restaurant for meals and the convenient highway access for early morning departures into the surrounding desert regions.

Huge flat parking lot behind restaurant

This place has no scenery, no facilities, no tables or fire rings. So why 4 stars? Because it's a great "launching point" for the Mojave desert. We leave the Bay Area and get to Kramer Junction in about 7 hours (we're slow). We park, have dinner, spend the night, have breakfast, and charge off into our trip, wherever it might go. Just a super way to begin.

There is a big train track nearby, and they are very noisy in the daytime. For some reason, we seldom hear them at night. Also, truckers come and go, but there's so much room that we never have to hear their engines or generators.

Last time through, there were dozens of onion trailers parked waiting for transport, but there is so much space that we still had tons of room and privacy.

Out near the old CA-58, there's a sign that says complementary parking courtesy the Roadhouse Restaurant... so we always spend a little cash in the way of thanks.
