      Kennedy Meadows Campground

      Mosquitoes, horse flys, flys & tree sap! Sites are otherwise nice🧐

      Had a nice site under a tree that was dripping sap everywhere! We could only use one end of the site table & things were still sticky! Enjoyed walking about the area and could see the nice stream below. There were so many 🦟 & biting flys that our one dog didn’t want to come out of our van, he also had sap on the bottom of his paws. This area is free, but there is a volunteer camp host that occasionally comes around to check you are not parked on the dirt areas. It is beautiful country and there is a very narrow road pass going towards Troy Meadows/Bakersfield/Lake Isabella that we enjoyed. Need to stop in at General Store for a beer!

      Kern River County Park

      Nice Haven on a Windy Day

      Got caught in a wind storm and needed to get off the road. This county park was a refuge. Pulled in around 2pm and had many sites to choose from. Got a nice site right on the river. Mostly stayed inside due to the strong winds. Did not see any camp hosts. Nice hot showers. Walking trails along the river and bike paths too.

      5 Stars because of the Location

      Gotta hit late fall early winter or early spring or else its elbows and Asholes, but there plenty of dispersed camping all around there, but a majo hang out for PCTers to catch a rest so it does get wild and crazy.... but not in the other dates I mentioned Fish in the creek and Major hiking all around... and its free, bathroom are just pit potties, and MOST sites are for tents and not level but ther are enough level ones....I love this place..... when there are no people here!

      Site Selection & Terrain

      • Site 76: Offers an incredible riverfront view, but be aware that the ground has a slight downward slope. It may not be the most level option for tent campers.
      • Site 77 and Above: These sites are much better suited for tent camping, providing level ground while still maintaining great proximity to the water. Location & Convenience The location is a major plus for this spot. You are very close to town, making it incredibly easy to make a quick run for:
      • Groceries
      • Gas
      • Last-minute supplies Service The hospitality really stands out here. The owner, Linda, is exceptionally helpful and provides excellent guidance and local information to ensure you have a smooth stay. > Final Verdict: Highly recommended! Just aim for site 77 or higher if you are bringing a tent.

      Sequoia National Forest Quaking Aspen Campground

      Awesome campground

      This campground is a great area for yourself to be immersed into the forest. We arrived on a Sunday and there were first come first serve campgrounds available. We stayed one night but there were plenty of spots to choose from. The roads around the campground are drivable for all type of cars. Due keep in mind you will need a to obtain campfire permit online before you arrive depending if there are fire restrictions or not. There is no service within the campground so make sure you have everything available to you. There are 2 hikes nearby but unfortunately one of the hikes, Freeman Creek Trail, was closed due to restoration work being done at the time. Definitely would recommend if you plan a little trip into Sequoia National Forest.

      Sequoia National Forest Quaking Aspen Campground

      Quiet, well maintained, with a knowledgeable host

      Tim is amazing! He has all the info on nearby trails, maps of the area, answers every question you can think of. Just fantastic. 

      As of 6/22/25:

      • potable water available-vault toilets are well maintained-no food lockers, but also no in-camp bear incidents/sightings in the last few years, per Tim. So we made sure our food was locked in our cars whenever we weren't using it.
      • If you want cell service briefly, there is a spot about 3.5 miles away off 21S70 as if you're headed to Dome rock.
      • site#19 had at least 3 relatively flat spots for tents and was nice and spacious.
      • Firewood is available at camp, at the nearby Camp Nelson general store, and if you're passing through Springville, Gifford's has some. 

      This campground is so peaceful, and near several hiking trails. Would 100% come back here again.
