BLM land managed by the Barstow Field Office, Gold Park Road Camp sits along a gravel access road southeast of Twentynine Palms that several visitors describe as rough enough to raise real concerns about getting stuck. This is dispersed camping in the open desert, with no designated sites, no water, and no facilities beyond what campers bring with them. The road demands a vehicle with reasonable clearance and a driver willing to take it slow.
Finding a usable spot takes some effort. Trash left by previous visitors is a consistent issue across multiple recent reviews, and some campers report having to drive well into the area before locating a clean site. Weekends bring OHV activity and the accompanying noise. Those who do find a workable spot note the area cools noticeably after dark, and joel G. describes a "quiet, beautiful evening sunset enjoyed." Verizon users have confirmed cell service at the site.
Campfires and pets are both permitted under BLM rules. The area provides genuine isolation from developed campgrounds, though that remoteness comes with the tradeoff of inconsistent conditions depending on how recently other visitors have cleaned up after themselves. Campers who want a more maintained dispersed option nearby might consider Desert Gold Camp a few miles to the north.
